Wes did something very few golf instructors have done-told me what to so, showed me what to do and how to do it, how I could tell if I was swinging correctly and gave me confidence in my swing. What else can you ask for?

    Frequently asked questions

What we ask: What is the main reason you decided to seek out instruction? What is the most important short-term outcome that you would like to work towards over the next few weeks/months together? What are your top of the mountain goals? Rate your current confidence level in each skill area. What is your ‘magic wand’ wish— if you could get rid of one ‘miss’ forever, what would it be? What type of shot scares you the most? What drives you to keep working on your game? As the student hits shots we observe 3 main FUNDAMENTALS: 1. Does the student hit the ground in the same spot in front of the ball 2. Does the student hit the ball a reasonable distance to score well. 3. Does the student hit the ball with a predictable/functional curve. During the above evaluation we also use High-Speed video analysis so we are able to analyze the swing in complete detail. We also send the student a voice-over summary of each lesson using an app called Hudl.

Golf students should reflect on specific questions to ensure productive conversations with their teachers about their needs. Here are key questions they should consider: 1 What are my specific goals in golf? ◦ Am I aiming to improve my overall game, focus on a specific skill (e.g., driving, putting, chipping), or prepare for competitive play? ◦ Do I want to lower my handicap, play more consistently, or enjoy the game recreationally? 2 What are my current strengths and weaknesses? ◦ Which parts of my game feel strong, and where do I struggle (e.g., accuracy, distance, mental focus)? ◦ Are there specific shots or situations (e.g., bunker shots, long irons) I find challenging? 3 What is my learning style? ◦ Do I learn best through visual demonstrations, verbal explanations, hands-on practice, or a combination? ◦ Am I comfortable with technical feedback, or do I prefer simpler, practical tips? 4 What are my time and practice constraints? ◦ How much time can I realistically dedicate to lessons and practice each week? ◦ Do I have access to a driving range, simulator, or course for practice? 5 What kind of feedback or coaching style works best for me? ◦ Do I respond well to detailed technical instruction, or do I need encouragement and simpler guidance? ◦ Am I looking for a structured long-term plan or short-term fixes for specific issues? 6 What equipment or physical limitations should I address? ◦ Is my current equipment (clubs, grips, etc.) suited to my game, or do I need advice on gear? ◦ Do I have physical limitations (e.g., flexibility, strength) that affect my swing or performance? 7 What are my expectations for progress? ◦ How quickly do I expect to see improvement, and am I realistic about the effort required? ◦ Am I prepared for setbacks or plateaus in my learning process? 8 Have I reviewed my recent performance? ◦ Can I provide specific examples of recent rounds, shots, or situations where I struggled or succeeded? ◦ Do I track stats (e.g., fairways hit, greens in regulation, putts per round) to share with my teacher? 9 What external factors affect my game? ◦ Do I struggle with mental aspects like confidence, focus, or pressure? ◦ Are there environmental factors (e.g., playing in wind, on different course types) I need help with? 10 What do I want from my teacher? ◦ Am I looking for a one-time lesson, ongoing coaching, or help with a specific event? ◦ Do I need help with course management, practice routines, or mental preparation? By thinking through these questions, students can provide their teachers with clear, actionable information, leading to more tailored instruction. For example, a student who knows they struggle with bunker shots and learns best through visual demonstrations can ask for specific drills or video analysis. This preparation maximizes lesson value and aligns teaching with the student’s needs.
