About

I am a classically trained musician with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Texas State University. I also hold memberships with both the Texas Music Educators Association and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. I have studied and performed in music for over 30 years. I teach voice lessons and beginning to intermediate level piano. My teaching style is relaxed in nature. I believe that a good repore with my students is important. Learning should be fun and enjoyable. Students should be free to learn at their own pace. My instruction is always student centered as each student is unique in they're learning level and capabilities.

My biggest joy comes from helping a student succeed in reaching their potential as a musician. I especially enjoy watching the reaction of a student when they make a breakthrough achievement in an area that has previously given them difficulty.

I have studios at two locations, New Braunfels TX and Universal City TX. Check out these websites for more information about attending lessons at one of my studios: (https://www.kisstudiomusic.net), (https://www.fbcuc.org/sowa)

Monica is kind, patient, respectful, and is skilled in teaching music. My daughter enjoys having Monica as a music teacher. Monica does not force or push her agenda but listens and gives my daughter room to grow by allowing her to go at her own pace.

She is always very encouraging but also makes sure to give excellent advice. She is also very comfortable to work with and makes the classes very fun. I feel much more confident after taking her classes.

    Frequently asked questions

My typical process with students is to spend the first half of the lesson building fundamental basics such as rhythm and staff literacy. The second half of the lesson is spent working on a piece of music geared to the application of those fundamentals. That being said, individual home practice is key to achieve maximum benefits of lessons. Without a commitment to consistent practice, the a student is unlikely to retain the information that I impart to them as a teacher.

    B.M. Music Education w / all-level teaching certification from

    Texas State University (2008)

I have 30 plus years of private vocal study.

I typically set up lessons in a recurring package of five sessions.
I developed an enjoyment for teaching while in college.
All ages and skill levels, but my passion is in teaching a solid musical foundation to beginners.
Teaching first and second graders music. I have really enjoyed teaching and hanging out with little people. They have all blessed me in their own special ways. Their energy and enthusiasm is a pleasure to witness and work with.
My best advice would be to come with an open mind, and a willingness to learn, but approach it with a light heart. Be diligent in your study but be able to balance commitment with enjoyment. When learning music becomes more of a chore than an enjoyment, the learning experience diminishes. So, commit yourself, but always maintain the joy in what you’re learning.
What kind of learner am I? What are my strengths and what are my weaknesses in learning? What teaching style do I like best? How committed am I likely to be to practicing my instrument?
