My teaching approach: Learn to play the music YOU love smooth and easy. We are very song-centered. Real world examples of great music are our starting point. Theory, scales, chord construction are applied as needed. We want someone listening to you saying, "Hey, I know that song. I love the way you play it, too." My influences are: Pop, rock, Celtic, folk and country performers from 1800 to the present. Guitar Techniques: Lead guitar, Rhythm guitar, Open tuning, Fingerstyle, Slide Guitar, Vocal Accompaniment, Performance, Improvisation, Jamming Skills, Reading Music, Music Theory, Scales and Exercises, Song Writing, Recording and Production, Guidance In Equipment Selection Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: Let's find out where you are now and where you want to go. In six months what songs will you be playing, where and with whom will you be making music. Not everyone is planning to be an international star. A guitar lesson with me might entail the following: We'll work on notes and chords one section at a time until you build the skills to play the music you like. We use music, tabs, jam tracks and videos to support the goal of playing by ear. Bear in mind that most of the great music we love is created by people who could NOT pass a music reading test. Let's make it easy to play along. The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: If you already have skills or are just a beginner we will help you chart the course to your goals. We create each lesson for where you are now instead of putting all students in the same boring book.

I have met so many fun and interesting people from all over the world. We get excited by the songs and the skills we learn making music together. Certainly some of my students have the desire to make it big in the music world. Most students merely want to play with friends and family. That means that I can be either a coach for the long road or just a milepost maker.
