Hello to all of my future Picassos out there... My name is Jennifer Johnson, I go by JJ, and I have been running my own painting lesson/paint party company for the last 6 years and teaching for 8 years :)
My approach is very laid-back, fun, and then of course I'm mixing some of the serious stuff! I think painting comes out best when you have a playful and fun attitude... So I try to take the stress out of painting for my beginning students!
I have a Masters degree in art and visual culture education a.k.a. Art education From the UA, and my undergrad focuses on painting. My areas of expertise include acrylic and watercolor painting, but I work with many different media.

In the last 6 years I have taught around ~100 classes per year, so around 600 classes! 😁
I am able to do one on one lessons, either in person or virtually, I can do paint parties for groups of 10 to 100 painters... For parties/special events/team building events! I am extremely reliable and energetic, and bring a fun energy to my passion in life, painting!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The process for working with a new student stars with a friendly conversation just to understand what their goals are… Is painting they just want to do once a month for fun, some thing weekly to de stress , or some thing that they are looking do almost on a daily basis to create a artistic lifestyle… Once we find out what the student's goal we can form a plan :)
I would also like to get to know the beginning artist on a more personal level to figure out what subject matter we can paint 😁 and what level we are aiming to achieve!

8+ years of teaching experience teaching art
6+ years experience as an self-employed artist running a Business

•join public class: $25-35
•private party: $30/painter ; 10 painter minimum
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from ages 3 to 90, but my specialty is for adults who are looking to try some thing artistic… Many of my students don't think that they are able to create art, and I specialize in changing their mind! I have a lot of experience with students who are nervous, have trepidation surrounding art making despite having an artistic drive, and I'm very passionate about what I do so I like to bring that energy to my students to show them how amazing painting is and what a benefit it brings to your life!
