Golf With Gil

One of the best instructors Ive ever had! So my buddy and I decided to get golf lessons together because, well, we stink. LOL! I have had 5 different instructors in AZ, and had marginal success in terms of getting improvement. I used good old Yelp to find one near our offices and we found Gil. And the reviews were totally right! He had us hitting BACKWARDS better than we did forwards. He has a great approach and utilizes a lot of aids for drills and sports psychology which is tremendously helpful. We have signed up for 6, two hour lessons and I am halfway through and thinking I will sign up for more. This has been the first time I feel like someone is really helping me dial in on the weaknesses of my game and just through three lessons I already have more confidence in the short game (where we started learning) and have seen the instruction pay off in actual strokes. We have a long way to go still, but I can say without a doubt Gil is really one of the best. He even re-gripped our clubs, and fixed one of my clubs where the head came undone (pro tip from Gil: do NOT leave your clubs in the garage or in your car because in this heat the glue breaks down and the heads can come loose like mine did). Stop getting dumb groupons and hitting off the PGA store fake turf into a computer like I did, and get out and Golf with Gil!

Although I have not actually managed to have a formal lesson with Gil he has given me direct, concise advise/instruction after briefly observing me hitting balls and chipping. I particularly like Gils notion of being consistent with a repeatable process . I look forward to getting with Gil in the near future and am confident that he can help me continue to improve my play.

Hi. My name is John. I am not really sure how to start and finish this testimonial to Gil. So here I go.

I started golfing in Arizona in Jan, 2014. ( I golfed 30 years earlier for a season, if you want to call it golfing.) My first time out in AZ, I shot 65 on a 9 hole par 3 golf course. With help from my friends, I reduced my score to 50. One of my friends (Buck), suggested that he could hook me up with Gil. This was the start of an incredible journey and more importantly, friendship.

After meeting with Gil we started “lessons”. They were nothing short of amazing. I mostly shot 18 holes with Gil as he patiently gave me tips (lessons). Over the next 3 months, I took weekly lessons from Gil. Gil always makes sure you have fun. It was a trip for sure.

Fast forward to October 2014. Spending the summer here in Alberta, Canada, I have golfed often. Most people do not believe I have only been golfing since Jan. I am no super star for sure, but my score has come down a great deal. I have recommended Gil to my brother, son in law and several friends. When ever we golf, often heard is, Gil said to do this. We call it Gil­ism, which translates to truism.

I, as well as everyone else, I am sure, go on you tube and look at lessons. They are good, but at the end of the day, we all go back to” Gil said.” Gil does not try to change to your swing or make you a PGA player. He wants to make sure you have fun. He succeeds 100%. Take a lesson or 100. You will love it.

Gil Benavidez has been my golf instructor for several years. Being new to the game I had no idea of all the subtle nuance. Gil has walked me through every aspect of this sport.
