    Frequently asked questions

I open the first lesson with a conversation and like to speak with students about their musical interests and background, and share some of mine. I talk about the approaches we can take, a focusing on western classical / world music / improvisation and assess our starting point from there. Tone is very important to me, and almost always I work with tone with most students at the first lesson. I address the importance of practicing daily.

I have 25 years + teaching experience in a variety of educational settings: public and private schools in the Bay Area, and U.C. Santa Cruz, and in Berlin, Germany. I hold a California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Music and an MFA in Electronic Music from Mills College. I am also a composer and sound artist and available to teach in these areas.

    75-90 sliding scale

I started when I was in my 20's and began working privately with students.

As young as 4 and as old as 75, all abilities and learning styles.

Spend some time speaking on the phone before scheduling. Ask about the teacher's approach, and assertain their own musical focus, and see if it matches yours. Schedule 1-2 lessons with one or two teachers before deciding.
