Crystal Guidry Arts
About
Hello all! I am an established professional artist and I enjoy teaching all ages. I work with various mediums that include (but are not limited to) acrylic, oil, graphic design, and sculpture. I began my career in High School; as the top honor for ‘Haggin Museum’s District Art Contest (with over 3,000 entries). My deep passion to expand my knowledge of my own culture led me to attend the HBCU-Langston University. At Langston University I was the official cartoonist for the University’s newspaper “The Gazette”. My comic titled “Black Beans & Rice” ran for two years; 2006-2007 and won multiple awards. I remained in the art community by displaying my mediums in museums, cafés, restaurants, book stores, private exhibits, and theatrical productions all around the world. In recent years I began collaborating with book authors and have illustrated for three Children’s Books. I also have 2 of my own books on Amazon titled "Brown Girl Love" and "A Love Letter To My Creator". I have done volunteer work as a muralist for schools, churches and privately owned buildings.
Overall, I enjoy teaching and learning.
I will encourage you to enjoy the process as you advance in your skill level.
I enjoy helping students reach their goals. The greatest accomplishment is when a student walks away feeling great about the work they produced. I'm a genuine person so I find joy in connecting with people and making the process fun. I love art, and I hope I can help you find a deeper passion for it also.

A Healing Conference that promoted health, community, and culture. In this conference I was the art instructor that guided each attendee in creating unique art that reflected them; I met some wonderful individuals in the process.

Don't judge a book by it's cover; some of the best art instructors may look difference than what you expect (example: a large black woman with an eccentric style :-D)
Art is fun- make sure you find an instrctor that you like and that will make the experience great.
Be honest with your instructor and what you expect to learn.
Don't be afraid to admit your fears and concerns.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
How much time can you deicate to the process?
Is what you're trying to learn require one session or multiple sessions?
Do you want a guided talk-through session or more of a quiet, soft music, therapeutic, visual guided session?
