About

I love bringing out the creativity of my students. And I'm passionate about helping them find what turns them on as artists. My name is Michelle Nosco. I'm an artist, musician, teacher and in 2007 became the founder and director of Arts For Earth Foundation, AFEF.

Exhibiting canvas' in galleries and murals in private residence and business' My studies began at the Detroit Museum of Art, Cranbrook School of the Arts, University of Michigan undergrad studies in Advertising/Design/Art History/Painting and Sculpting. Professionally, I specialized as an art director and producer in advertising then received my Masters degree from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in directing Theatre, Television and Film, interning with USC’s Peter Stark Program at Amblin’ and Universal Studios. Later I also became a certified Massage Therapist at the Santa Barbara Body Therapy Institute.

As an artist I've painted over 100 murals throughout Southern California and numerous animal and human portrait commissions. In 2007 I founded the non-profit Arts For Earth Foundation and began to work with a variety of dedicated environmental groups.

When teaching I find that setting the stage for students to use their artwork as a creative expression gives them a sense of well-being and accomplishment. We use specific techniques for each chosen medium, then, out of that comes the artists personal expression. We paint for a cause that matters or simply because we like the way our artwork looks. Either way its gratifying to express the way we feel.

Creating in many mediums, I love to work in watercolor or oils using acrylic as a base coat. We usually start by drawing with pencil, charcoal or pastels so the students can develop their ideas without worrying about the technical difficulties of various mediums.

A recipient of the Earth Charter Award in Ventura County, Arts For Earth Foundation works with artists and Environmental groups including: The Sepulveda Basin Wildlife Refuge, The California Wildlife Center, Ventura Climate Hub, Sierra Club, SurfRider, CA Native Plant Society to name a few.

After joining the fine art scene in 2003 and serving as President of the San Fernando Valley Art Club 2008-2012, I received a variety of awards from honorable mention to 1st place professional division judges choice.

Currently, I volunteer with AFEF to host Earth Spirit exhibits at the WAV (Working Artists Ventura). We provide a venue for artistic passion to portray compassion towards humanity and sustainable life on planet Earth.
