My teaching approach: Alumnus of both the Guitar Institute of Technology (G.I.T.) at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, as well as Master Classes with some of the worlds best musicians. The "ah-ha" moment. That point when someone suddently "gets it". They realize how to place their fingers to play that chord, or they can play that passage and actually hear what it is that they are playing. At that point they can start to put themself into the piece of music and make it what they want it to be.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If the student is just beginning to learn how to play the guitar, the most important element is to discover what type of learner they are, and what will get them the most engaged in the process. As the student progresses, it may be more necessary to create something challenging for them to work on. The first step is determing what will be the most effective approach to teach this specific student how to play the instrument. This is where the importance of customized lesson plans becomes evident. Any "teacher" can teach someone how to jam on their favorite song, not ever teacher can make the student understand the elements of that song so that they can apply them to their own music, and enjoy it along the way.
