Teaching Philosophy:
The method that he has developed encourages real learning and the development of skill by the student. Each student is different and requires an individual approach as well as ‘buy-in’ from the student who is expected to develop self awareness and is taught to self-direct their own development. . Efficient mechanics and fundamentals are emphasized within the style, ability and goals which the student has decided to train for. The GTC Training Group workouts are structured so that the student grows in awareness of how the strokes work, and begins to be able to choose efficient ways to play based on what is truly demanded by those goals. Rhythm, timing and balance integrated with body mechanics, footwork and stroke production are the core of what everyone needs to learn. Many years of experience have rendered him always able to communicate this in a form that each student can understand and use.
More unique still, I believe, is GTC’s way of helping the student learn to integrate these new skills into competition in a healthy and successful way!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
There is a clear ‘order of movement’ to be followed which allows more freedom to keep track of details like the trajectory of the ball and learn effective ‘strokes’ for whatever goals the student may have.

How did you get started teaching?
It was the natural progression from being a college player at UCLA, playing for two years on the ATP satellites and tour and then beginning to work with and train younger players who were also competitive like me. The next step was to graduate to running a program at a club which necessarily involves learning how to teach recreational players and competitive players at different ages and ability levels etc.… Which I’ve been doing for over thirty years now.
What types of students have you worked with?
see my resume above: Q 2
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Know your own goals clearly: whatever they may be from simple exercise and enjoyment with friends and family to more serious fun: local USTA teams/tournaments and/or competition at your ‘club’....that way you can become more and more clear about what you want to learn and how hard you want to work towards your particular goal.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
