Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We have an an initial assessment with the parent or player for needs and describe what we can do and coordinate the day and time which fits best.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Our coaches come from a variety of backgrounds. We have high school coaches, collegiate players, retired former professional players and coaches who come with a fitness training background. Our athletic director is a certifid USA Baseball and Softball coach who reviews all coaching candidates and make sure they are at the appropiate level to coach with our program!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
SMSBA charges $65 per hour for all of our individual lessons.
Combo (Two or more) is $85
Groups of three or more are $35 per player
We also can make arrangements for coaching Rec league teams, consulting or being a trainer helping coaches during the season.
How did you get started teaching?
SMSA was founded in 2016 with the goal and attitude to pr0vide elite training to area youth athletes that did not exist prior.
What types of students have you worked with?
We haved worked wiht players as young as 5 years all the way up to collegiate players. We run youth camps and clinics for Winter, Summer, Fall for ages 6-14 yrs and Clinics for players to high school.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
SMSA just had a hitting clinic where we brought in a Hit Tracker video anaylsis truck that players were able to use to determine velocity, power and swing mechanics. We brought it our Veterans Day Hitting Clinic and it was a huge success!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you do your homework! Not every person advertising their name with a college or pro name in front is a coach! Coaching is a learned profeession and it must come with an honesty and integrity to teach. If a player does not come away feeling challenged, having learned something "new" at every outing, find another coach.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why.
Why am I here?
Why can't I do what I am here to do?
Why can't I and what can you do to answer that?
