Lessons at Silver Stirrup will help you reach any and all of your horse-related goals through our TWO HOUR long lessons, centered around real horsemanship. Highly trained, experienced instructors will help you learn without the fear or furstration, just fun, effective instruction in an organized program. All instructors are horse-lovers with years of their own training and certifications in both teaching and first aid, and are able to use the tried and tested 4 level program set up for our students, to guide all types, while tailoring each lesson to the individual and his or her goals. Compare us to other one-hour lessons that feel rushed and unproductive, frustrating, lonely, or chaotic, and you'll find the most value from Silver Stirrup Riding Academy. We've got the lesson horses to teach you in a safe environment, and the staff and students to make you feel welcome and accomplished, no matter your experience level or goals!
The instructors at Silver Stirrup love what they do... who wouldn't love being outside, working with amazing horses all day, and getting to share their passion and knowledge with other horse-lovers? We get to watch students learn and grow; we love seeing our adults find a stress-release, and accomplish life-long dreams, and love watching our youth students flourish into bright, respectful, and patient young adults- all the results of time spent with horses!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
From the first inquiry, we make sure to acquire as much information about our future students as possible. Of course their goals, age range, and experience level, all to help us schedule the best lesson horse, and plan for the first lesson. Upon meeting our new students, we assess their abilities, comfort and confidence, and decide what steps will be best for their journey with us. The first lesson is always both an evaluation as well as a chance for the student to get their feet wet. New students are either introduced to our program through a camp, in which case more hours are taken so that everyone is able to practice new skills together, or in a private course so that they can focus easily for the first introductions. We pride ourselves on catering to every individual, whether in groups or alone- the timid students will be walked through each step with patience, at a pace that is not intimidating, and the student who's ready to ride off into the sunset will be challenged in a way that will excite them!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The owner of Silver Stirrup, Liza Hillman, has spent the vast majority of her life with horses, now coming up on twenty years of riding, including lessons, training, competing, and of course teaching. She has shown and earned champion ribbons and trophies in English, Dressage, Jumpers, Western Pleasure, and Gymkhana, has trained horses from the ground up, earned certifications in natural horsemanship, and now can boast students of her own earning series championships.
Every instructor with Silver Stirrup has teaching experience before joining, experience with horses, First Aid certification, and trains directly with Liza to become top teachers who understand each lesson horse, and how to connect with any individual, and get the best out of them, regardless of personality type, learning type, or experience level.
