About

I'm Sheri and I love to teach drums! I've been teaching for over 20 years and have a Master's in Music Education.

The way I see it, playing drums is a lesson for life: you should strive to be the best you can, but you should also have fun. A lot of my students stay with me for years and drumming becomes an important part of how they find their way in the world. Often parents get inspired by their kids and decide they'd like to take lessons as well. It's fun to watch the bond - and the friendly competition! - as parents jump into the game and develop drumming skills along with their kids.

What makes me most excited about my business is watching my students improve in their drumming skills week to week. Seeing that big smile on a student's face when something finally clicks, totally makes my day!

I also love the variety of people I get to work with who all share a passion for drumming. Little kids, big kids, dads, moms, retired engineers, Stanford professors, high-tech employees, and many more have been a part of our Rock N' Roll School family. Every day is different and every lesson keeps me on my toes. That's what makes my job the best job in the world!

Mrs. Luevano was my marching band teacher for my 7th and 8th grade years. During that course of time, I not only grew as musician, but also as a person. Having her as a teacher taught me things like how to always be positive, how to implement a servant leadership style. Her teaching through example has stuck with me to this day, and I would list her as one of the top most positive influences on me in my middle-school years.
Mrs. Luevano always put the interests of her students before her own. She works hard to find music that is both fun to play and challenging, and is super patient towards those whom music did not come as naturally as it does others (me). Her passion for music and teaching come together in a beautiful and rare combination, making learning how to play any instrument fun and engaging.
To anyone even remotely interested in learning how to play an instrument, I would recommend her in a heartbeat.

Sheri is one of the most gifted music teachers I have ever met! Her innovative and highly informed teaching strategies, combined with her warm and inspirational presence, locks in students focus and enthusiasm for mastering their instrument. I will continue to refer students to her without reservation, knowing her spirit will carry them to where they need to go next in their learning journey!
She is prepared for any age group. I started playing drums in my 50s, and I am amazed how fast I have progressed under her masterful guidance. Im not even done with my first year of lessons, and I am already playing gigs, and having soooo much fun with the world of percussion. And Ive seen (and heard of) her amazing work with children as well, helping them love this world of music that is so important for their development.
Shes the teacher you want. Believe me!

Drumming with Sheri is the highlight of every week. Stepping into her studio is like entering a magical wonderland of good music and student snacks lit by the sunshine she exudes.
I have never felt as if I were in a class or a lesson--Sheri is a thoughtful and patient teacher with clever ways to guide students through tough material, and learning with her has never been anything less than a total blast. She has helped me transform from knowing nothing about music into an awesome drummer, who will be attending drum camp in the summer and joining the school band this fall. Im so happy to have discovered a passion in drumming, and plan on rocking on for a long time to come.

Sheri is so gifted and enthusiastic, she truly knows how to motivate our two boys, aged 9, who enjoy their weekly class. Sheri has taught them drums for 5 years. She adapts her teaching style and criteria to match our kids skills and level. Apart from 2 adults drums sets and other instruments (keyboard, drums, etc.) she has a kids size drums set suited to childrens shorter arms and legs. I definitely recommend her classes.

    Frequently asked questions

I typically do an introductory lesson that is 45-60 minutes. Most of that time is a lesson tailored to the level of the student, and the last few minutes is spent discussing studio policy, including how to log into their student portal on the website, how to book studio practice time and methods of payment.

While working on my master's degree in music education, I decided to teach privately to help pay the bills while going to school full time. I discovered that I loved it so much that now I do this full time!

Over the years, I've had so many great students and families come in through the Rock N' Roll School doors. One dad was so inspired by his daughter's drumming, that he signed up for lessons. Another mom is taking lessons in secret so she can surprise her twin sons who are also up-and-coming drummers. I teach ages from 6-99!

I worked with the Boy's and Girl's Club in East Palo Alto on a project where I taught percussion using the curriculum I wrote in graduate school. My favorite part was when we did the recital for all the parents at the end of the year. The students had so much fun playing and performing for the audience on their drums.

Feel free to try a lesson and see if you are a good fit with the instructor. A good teacher will be able to help you no matter what your learning style is. It is the teachers responsibility to help and inspire the student.
