About
I'm Sheri and I love to teach drums! I've been teaching for over 20 years and have a Master's in Music Education.
The way I see it, playing drums is a lesson for life: you should strive to be the best you can, but you should also have fun. A lot of my students stay with me for years and drumming becomes an important part of how they find their way in the world. Often parents get inspired by their kids and decide they'd like to take lessons as well. It's fun to watch the bond - and the friendly competition! - as parents jump into the game and develop drumming skills along with their kids.
What makes me most excited about my business is watching my students improve in their drumming skills week to week. Seeing that big smile on a student's face when something finally clicks, totally makes my day!
I also love the variety of people I get to work with who all share a passion for drumming. Little kids, big kids, dads, moms, retired engineers, Stanford professors, high-tech employees, and many more have been a part of our Rock N' Roll School family. Every day is different and every lesson keeps me on my toes. That's what makes my job the best job in the world!

How did you get started teaching?
While working on my master's degree in music education, I decided to teach privately to help pay the bills while going to school full time. I discovered that I loved it so much that now I do this full time!
What types of students have you worked with?
Over the years, I've had so many great students and families come in through the Rock N' Roll School doors. One dad was so inspired by his daughter's drumming, that he signed up for lessons. Another mom is taking lessons in secret so she can surprise her twin sons who are also up-and-coming drummers. I teach ages from 6-99!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I worked with the Boy's and Girl's Club in East Palo Alto on a project where I taught percussion using the curriculum I wrote in graduate school. My favorite part was when we did the recital for all the parents at the end of the year. The students had so much fun playing and performing for the audience on their drums.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Feel free to try a lesson and see if you are a good fit with the instructor. A good teacher will be able to help you no matter what your learning style is. It is the teachers responsibility to help and inspire the student.
