About
Hi I’m Lisa. I graduated with degrees in Art History & Architecture. After college I worked at the J. Paul Getty Museum as a Visitor Specialist. I also went to culinary school at the same time to earn an Applied Science Degree in Culinary Arts. After running several catering companies and an online retail business I have discovered that my true passion lies in working with students to build their confidence and help them gain perspective on their essays, applications and college interviews.
For the past two years I have been coaching students of all ages on their interview technique and consulting with high school students on their college applications and essays. In addition to being a Tutor, I have families that I consult for on a private basis.
My favorite thing about working with students is seeing the huge shift in confidence that comes from a successful interview or essay. Many of my students have even called interviews 'fun' after going into them so well prepared. The same confidence can be found in helping a student to brainstorm an essay topic that they are passionate about. In addition to being impeccably well written, an essay should accurately give the reader a sense of who you are. When your individuality is well conveyed, as an applicant, you will stand out from the rest of the pack. Applying to college is an an exciting time. I am here to objectively guide you, help you find your voice and some 'fun' in the process.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I hold a BA in Art History from UC Santa Barbara. I specialize in grades 6-12, but I have worked with students of all proficiency and age levels, from Kindergarten to college. I offer tutoring in all Language Arts-related areas: Reading comprehension, essay writing and creative writing.
Whether you're seeking a teacher to work intensively on an area of difficulty or an experienced pair of eyes to review your college admittance essay, I'll be happy to help. Please get in touch, and we will establish a learning plan to suit the needs of you or your child.
