About
Having fun in the water is my focus during the lesson. If the student is having fun, they learn and become water safe faster.
I get to know the students and make sure they are comfortable with what they are doing. The water can scare children and make them regress from being able to learn. I make sure they are not only comfortable but are also having fun. This helps them learn during the lesson and makes them eager to go in the water outside the lesson where the learning continues.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My first lesson is all about building rapport with the student. If time is spent gaining trust then the lessons in the future are much more productive.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching swim lessons for over 20 years. I was a competative swimmer from the age of 6 all the way into college.
I have a Water Safety Instructor, Lifeguard, and First Aid certificate, and a California Teaching Credential in Physical Education.
For 16 ears I worked at an Elementary School and ran the Physical Education program for students K-5. For the past 3 years I have been a P.E. teacher at a Middle School working with students grades 6-8. I also have a lot of experience with students who have special needs.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do private lessons but on occasion will do group lessons. I travel to peoples homes and charge $90 per hour. Each lesson takes 20 minutes, so families will group up and split the hour to make it $30 a lesson. Discounts are given to the home owner when they have 2 hours of lessons at their home.
How did you get started teaching?
I am the youngest of 7 children in my family and we were all swimmers. Three of my older siblings gave swim lessons at my house growing up so I learned by watching them. I took a few of my older sisters clients when she wasn't available and after word of mouth, I have been booked every summer since.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have been teaching for so long that I can safely say I have worked with almost all types of students. From ages 2-70 years old, from calm to rambunctious and all levels of cognitive developement including students who are non verbal and have special needs. What ever type of student they were, they all had some type of success.
