Neon Moon
About
30 years of experience teaching crafts and drawing to children and adults. Located in Claremont, CA I teach the student a new way to see a guide drawing or a prop. We look at shapes, proportions and i teach how to hold the writing instrument and how to draw gesturally. We can start with movement, then with "looking" then with seeing and applying shapes. We then look again and apply adjustments until we have the bones of the drawing ready for tone. We learn about tone then practice seeing and appying it. After that we learn new techniques for reprsenting tone such as cross hatching or stippling. I also teach watercolor and pastel. A student can also request a class in perspective or any other specialty area. I love teaching!
I enjoy it when the students have an "aha" moment and realize they really CAN draw and they are proud of their progress.

My student A., is obsessed with dragons, so i have modified my lesson plans to work within the motif of dragons! Im enjoying teaching her and learning all of the folklore around the mystical beasts.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher is using a lesson plan that works around your interest. It's no fun to learn drawing theory in an uninteresting way!
