About

I am a mixed media artist and I love to help others on their artsy journey. My projects include all kids of texture, it's not just another paint party. You learn techniques and how to use different types of mediums on each project. I offer classes both in my home and yours.

I offer two types of lessons to both kids and adults. I have reoccurring lessons where the student comes to my home once or twice a month. In these lessons we focus on different types of mediums and how to use them, always creating a project.

I also do parties in your home. You pick from one of my current projects and we have a party. The price is per person and I bring all the supplies. This is a great option for birthday parties, girls night out, family night, baby showers, etc.

I have kids events almost every month and an art camp in the summer.

I have been an artist all my life and about 5 years ago I started turning my passion into my business. I'm an art teacher for iLEAD Charter Schools. I love what I do and it's my joy to help others create something from their heart.

My current classes can be found on my Blue Moxie FaceBook page.

Frequently asked questions

My style is to encourage and guide my students to learn new things, to mix it up and see what happens. My favorite words are "What if?" I think it's important in life and in art to take chances and be ok with the results. Sometimes you create soemthing amazing and sometimes it fails. And that's ok.

It's important to me that each student creates the art from their heart, not a cookie cutter copy of my example. Although we may both be making an elephant, their elephant is going to be different from mine.

I have been an artist all my life. Mixed Media is perfect for me because it incorporates all the things I love...paper, paint, watercolors, texture, fabric...the list is endless.

I've also been some sort of teacher most of my life. I've taught art to a variety of ages in scrapbook stores, at private events, through the charter school, private students and home parties.

Art lessons in my home are $30 for a two hour lesson.

My art parties are $20-$40 per person, depending on the project that you choose. I have a $100 minimum for me to come to you.

All supplies are always included.

It was such a natural progression for me. When I was younger I was always a teacher of some sort. I started with preschool and worked my way into special education. My joy is in sharing with others so as I was studying different types of art I would teach my friends what I had learned. After years of studying and becoming confident in my art, and lots of encouragement, I decided to make creating, selling and teaching art my business. I took the idea of "create the life you want to live" to heart and now I have the best job in the world. I get to share what I love with others and be a part of their journey. When my students hold up their project in awe and say "I can't believe that I made that", nothing is better than that.

I work with both kids and adults. I find that 8 is a good age to start but there are always exceptions. I have a student that is 5 and does great. I see her twice a month for 2 hours and she focuses and stays with me the entire time.

I've done parties for everything from 8 year old twins to a 58 year olds birthday party. I've worked with people that start off saying they're not creative and end up having a great time.

I have this little 7 year old that I work with twice a month that I just love. Every lesson he puts his heart into it but at the end says "It's not my best work". Art is hard for him, he wants to do it but it's not natural for him like it is for his sisters. Although I think he's a fine little artist, he lacks confidence.

Our project a few weeks before Christmas was a mixed media snowman canvas for them to give as gifts. He started off saying that he was making him and his best friend as snowmen and was going to give it to his friend. At the end, he was so proud of it and decided that he was giving it to his dad. He couldn't even wait until Christmas. Not once did he mention a lack of confidence with his work and he was so in love with his results. Best moment ever.

Decide what type of teacher you're looking for and what it is exactly that you want to learn. I am different than most of the teachers out there. I'm not a 'fine arts' teacher. Yes, you will learn about values and perspective and things like that. But, my style isn't rigid. I'm not about "This is what we're going to make and yours needs to look like mine". I'm about letting go of perfection and enjoying the process. I will encourage you to make art from your heart, not just copy me. I will lead you on a journey of trying new things and learning that mistakes are ok.

There is nothing wrong with taking a fine arts type of class, you have to learn the rules so you can break them after all! I encourage you that if that's the route you take, find a teacher that encourages individuality.

Are all supplies included? My regular students just need an art journal, sketch pad, mechanical pencil and white eraser. I supply everything else.
