Stuart is a phenomenal teacher. His depth of photography knowledge is vast. He is very good at explaining concepts in ways that click and are easy to understand, which I really appreciate. My photography skills have grown leaps and bounds because of his direction. You will enjoy his class! He is so much fun to listen too!

Stuart Holmes challenges his students to critically think through why we learn for the art of photography. There is a science that creates that art. Have always wondered what F-stop is for, and what makes a shot blurry in low light? How do I compose a shot? What is good preparation? What considerations make it a more pleasant experience? Having a great teacher makes it easier find answers!!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

As an experienced teacher, I begin by getting to know you and where you are in your abilities today. I will listen to your goals and needs for the style of shooting you’d like to do and work with you to build those skills.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Teaching has always been a passion. I began teaching private music lessons 32 years ago at the age of 16 and am now professional teacher in the public schools and hold a California State Teaching Credential. I took up photography as a hobby and counterbalance to my work as a professional musician, and teaching photography was a natural outgrowth of that hobby.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$60/ Hour,  $100 for two hours

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with all types and ages of students from 4th graders to retirees, with both physical and  learning disabilities.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Students should know what types of shots they have enjoyed taking in the past and maybe have an idea of what they would like to do better. It doesn’t matter if their camera is their phone or an advanced DSLR, I will help them identify areas they can improve and help them explore new avenues for their photography.
