About

My private students have won all-state band and orchestra competitions in Texas, Oklahoma, and Virginia, placed in the WGI national finals with groups like Riverside City College and Bakersfield College, attended prestigious summer festivals like those at Aspen and Tanglewood, and held professional positions with varied groups like Blast! and various US Air Force and Navy bands. Randy Gorman, who is the current senior percussionist in the top Navy band, is a former student of mine.

My drum set experience includes study with Joe Morello, a drummer for the Dave Brubeck Quartet and Marian McPartland, and Henry Okstel of the University of North Texas.

I have studied vibraphone, marimba, timpani, and other orchestral percussion with Robert Hohner at Central Michigan University, and Richard Gipson, at the University of Oklahoma. In my time at each school, their percussion ensembles were regarded as two of the best in the country.

My conga pedigree includes study with John Amira in Manhattan and Angel Figueroa in LA.
