Three Coral Dojo
About
Okinawan Karate is a way of life, NOT my job. My income comes from teaching Human Biology in Colleges. This allows me to teach Karate as it was meant to be taught, as true martial art system. You'll notice that even my youngest students can produce audible power with their strikes even when they are only hitting air. More important, you will see they are confident and are excelling at other areas of their lives.
Teaching Karate has increased my health since I obtained my MD. It give me a way to mentor my students in many ways including helping them strive for their dreams. I am able to teach my student so they can reach the highest level possible.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I need to check the needs of the student and their physical ability. Then, I attempt to answer any questions they have about Martial arts in general and more specifically our style. We follow with a trial to see if we are the right fit for the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my Dojo license from Okinawa, a Doctoral degree, I teach Biology at local community colleges and have well documented training. I also hold the advanced degree in medicine
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For our classes I charge $100 per month. For private lessons we can discuss based on various factors. Testing is included up to black belt and only other normal charges would be for uniform, and belts.
How did you get started teaching?
I love teaching and have done it for what feels like my entire life. Professionally, I began teaching college in 2001 and martial arts around 2004.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught all ages and levels, I am talking about from 3 years old over 70. from Pre-school to other professors.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I took a train trip from San Diego to Oakland by train. I stopped in various cities where I was able to learn a litte of various martial arts. Travel is a big part of the martial arts lifestyle.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Try a few and make sure you are getting what you want. Too many people claim to be able to do everything other will trash talk other arts. Do not look at high rank as each style will be different and a 10th dan (degree black-belt) in one style might not be as good as a 1st dan in another.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
there are many types of Martial arts, Sport based, showmanship based, military based, self-defense based, ext. which are you really interested in because while people will try to make a sale, nobody can teach all types at the same time. Think about it this way, Martial means fighting and what is ok to do in a war-zone will get you put in jail in the civilian world. What can win in a sport, can get you killed in an assault. Choose wisely.
