Kathryn Leal-Powers is the owner of Art Home School and has taught art at all levels, from elementary to community college, has led to her belief that the profoundness of art education can only be truly appreciated through a holistic approach. Kathryn is also a professor at National University in San Diego, CA.
Kathryn’s undergraduate degree is in Studio Art with a minor in Art History. She completed a Master’s in Art Education from The School of Visual Arts located in New York City.
Her lesson plans cover art projects that introduce artistic techniques, in the context of art history and cross-curricular connections with other subject matters. Learning is reinforced by reflection questions about the lives and cultures of the artists studied. Art projects are personalized to the student’s area of interest.
Kathryn believes in a rigorous approach to art education and as a consequence, many of her students have won awards at local, regional, and statewide art competitions.
Kathryn created Art Home School to share her holistic approach with other educators and lovers of art education as a stand-alone curriculum or to support an existing program.
