Professional touring, recording, and teaching experience of 20 years. Currently performing with members of Frank Zappas band.

I work with all ages and skill levels and am very patient, knowledgeable, and fun to be around.

I love performing music and teaching people because it's the perfect balance in life. I can express myself through performance and teach people how to achieve their goals via my expereince. Seeing a student grow and be happy makes me feel happy, which occurs when learning a new song or melody, playing with your friends and being able to JAM!

I have known Marcus since I was 11 years old and I'm 33 today! I have been playing guitar since the age of 12 and on and off over the years I took lessons, both in local shops and privately. When I was young lessons were fun but learning was boring. I had little desire to understand and learn theory I just wanted to play. As the years went by I occasionally would take lessons online here and there that seemed to leave me feeling discouraged. Marcus's techniques were different and the way he explained how to think about theory made sense. He's approach is more of a relaxed experience which sets his style apart from other lessons I had in the past. Regardless of your experience beginner or experienced I can confidently say that you will learn something new. If you are looking for a great teacher and are looking for a relaxed experience Marcus is your go to teacher.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I will asses the students skills and goals to help them reach their maximum potential. Starting out with a song that they enjoy or learning something on their wish list is a typical way I like to start working with a new student/s.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I earned a Bachelors of Music from Berklee College of Music, a world renouned music school is Boston, MA. I then went on to earn a Masters of Music in Jazz Studies at DePaul University in Chicago, IL. In addition, I tour and perfrom around the world in addition to vast recording session experience .

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My pricing is flexible based on the individual although I value my time at a very high rate due to my busy schedule. My lesson rate is 100/hr and lessons start at 2hr minimums. If a student wants a shorter lesson it can be discussed, but an hour for learning and an hour for application is found to have the greatest results. I also offer group lessons where you and friends could take lessons together, and band coaching where I will help get you and your band sounding, looking, and managed better than ever! Online lesson are also an option via various video meeting sites.

How did you get started teaching?

I began teaching because I myself have had amazing teachers! Due to increasing popularity of my bands and performing career, students asked me for lessons and I happily found myself enjoying the process. Passing down knowledge I have gained via Berkee, DePaul, and performing with many well known musicians has been very rewarding and I want to keep that going.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with all types of students from never having played to being in high school or college bound, all the way to being a professional that wants to hone in on certain areas of playing.
