I hold a Bachelor's of Music in guitar performance from Berklee College of Music. I have 8 years of teaching experience and 12 years of playing, touring, writing, and recording experience. I am also fully versed in music theory and can teach all levels of ear training. I play and teach all styles and levels of acoustic guitar, electric guitar, slide guitar, banjo, and songwriting. I also work as a session musician and songwriter. As a teacher, I tailor lessons to each student and play to their strengths as everyone has their own individual learning style. I have taught students from as young as 5 years old to as old as 80 and have found that nobody is unable to learn.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask them about their musical background and what kind of music they like. If they have some experience I get them to play me something and then we go from there. If the student has no experience then I start from the basics i.e. how the guitar works, the names of the strings, how to tune, etc. Then I get into basic chords and functional strumming technique to get them playing songs. I find the sooner the student experiences the reward of playing music, the more they want to learn. I also like to incorporate ear training and theory into all instrument lessons as they are essential to put all the pieces together and start playing with the proverbial training wheels.
