About

I have a background in teaching singers that spans 15 years. I teach and coach singers diversely - from working with graduate jazz vocal students in Germany's Bujazzo Big Band to coaching college, middle and high school music theater students online, to teaching serious adult musicians ways to improve their craft.

I studied Performing Arts at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, and currently I'm furthering my education at Berklee School of Music.

I think of music through a doctoral lens, as understanding problem areas is how I have come to improve myself and others, in singing.

I can help you with my extensive knowledge and experience of healthy vocal habits, vocal anatomy, technique fixes, and musical expansion.

I have studied and worked in Broadway/musical theater, popular vocal styles, jazz, R&B, and classical music.

I spent a decade studying and performing blues and gospel on the national blues scene . I performed at many festivals! I studied and performed jazz standards formally as a youth, with a group of girls my age. Pop singing and mask resonance comes naturally to me - though I did study singing the technique of Michael Jackson with an MTV pop idol of mine from my teenhood, Krystal Harris (Princess Diaries, Country Bears).

I spent a decade touring the US, and have now toured Europe many times.

I released a collaboration with Tool's drummer Danny Carey in 2021.

I have been featured as a collaborator on some of the most modern jazz fusion recordings of the day. I am fortunate to sing in the productions of Scott Kinsey, Jimmy Haslip, George Whitty, and John Daversa Big Band with ARC Trio…. +

I write songs and teach songwriting and recording technique.

I am educated in Ableton LIVE and Digital Performer, and I'm a former Protools user.

I teach from the web, for $50/hour.

Feel free to approach me if you are ready to express yourself, take yourself to another level, and find out more about your own voice.

I enjoy teaching the physics of singing, and the physics of producing a good tone.

I am 15 years in, teaching singing and spreading The Alexander Method to as many students as possible.

My linked in name is Meredith (Mer Sal) Salimbeni.

Meredith is very flexible in her scheduling, so that we could meet weekly at a time that worked well for us. She is a talented singer and inspires others. She taught my 10-year-old son voice techniques and concepts that were new to him. She also introduced him to using the keyboard for practicing music scales. He connected well to learning from her. It was obvious she has a passion for singing and for teaching her students. Thank you Meredith!

Meredith is more than a vocal coach. As an experienced performer, songwriter, and musician, she offers more insights than “how to improve your voice”. She gets theory, understands genres and styles, and works to understand her student’s goals and objectives.
In short, a pleasure to work with, and I anticipate I’ll be working with her for years to come.

Meredith makes our time together fun & enjoyable while building my confidence. She makes technical stuff down to earth and understandable for me who is a new singer. I already feel my voice in a different way and feel stronger all the time.

MerSal is a very inventive & naturally gifted singer who is a champion of creativity in all styles & directions. She has a kind , creative, supportive & fun nature that fosters growth and experimentation vocally in all styles. I was called to do a backup session with her doing backups on one of her records she recorded with her band
“The Symbols” a few years ago by her producer Phil Brown. I loved her & her gorgeous soulful/jazzy voice immediately. It truly was love at first sight ( and first sound!!!) She’s got a deep soul and a mature-beyond-her- years sound in her voice -fantastic in every way!!! She’s very professional and great fun to work with. Choosing to work with her in any way whatsoever is nothing but a win- win for all involved! I highly recommend her.
    Cheers!!!

    Frequently asked questions

I'll ask you what's the most important to you - of the skill teachings I am offering.

You will show me where you're at with this skill.

I'll asses you and offer you a tip to improve that.

I will introduce myself to you.  I will tell you what I have done in that area of expertise.

we will warm up using a relaxation method.  We will be kind to our voices.

I will guide you through an exercise in learning the skill of your choice, or what I assess you might need.

You will provide me with material you want to learn or allow me to choose for you for the next lesson.

I will ask you to pick a song you'd like to sing, and also a singer you'd like to emulate.  We will talk about singers worth emulating for the style you wish to achieve.

I have taken private lessons with stars and experts of wide fields of singing expertise.
I attended Colorado State University's performing arts conservatory at one point to explore theater and singing...
I have sung in and directed choirs, and can teach sight reading.
I have worked in entertainment and played in a band of my own, writing my own songs and singing on stages across the United States for ten years.
I co-wrote a song with a group of Grammy winners, prior to being discovered by someone who changed my career forever...

    I am passionate, driven.
Before being discovered and entered into where I am now, I sold 14,000 copies of my albums from the stage, and performed nightly.
I performed long shows and we called it "paid practice". I was actually improving my singing, during those long hours onstage.
It's hard work and sacrifice, but if you're hungry to learn, I am interested in helping you start, or continue anywhere on your path.

I'm $50/hour.  I only do hours.  If you refer a friend, and they join, you get a free lesson.  If you leave me a nice review, I will give you half off of your next lesson.

You can improve in as little as 15 lessons, if you practice between them.  You'll be amazed!

I began teaching when I was in my college years.

After college I had my traveling performance group, but during the weekdays I taught lessons in person, in a formal music studio.

In addition to years at a youth conservatory, I studied from so many experts in the singing field, and shared the stage with so many incredible singers of all styles, that eventually I knew how to solve any singer's issue.
Other singers in my scene began to call me for coaching, and I became a voice coach.

My knowledge and discovery of the voice is passionate, you will find, when we speak.  A lot of it is what you can discover yourself, but a lot of it is science.  I feel prepared with the knowledge, experience, and insight into being in control of your own voice.

Everyone: beginners, advanced, intermediate, pitch-problematic singers...
Most of my clients have been young adults, or adults.
I do also get a lot of the more experienced  singers (people with 5+ years experience) who may feel stuck.

Some problems are technical.  Others are musical choices, or choice of song for the performer, etc.  So, it isn't just beginners I am prepared to talk to.

I just released a pop record with some great musicians.  I was fortunate enough to feature Danny Carey (Tool's drummer) on a track, and we tracked it at his studio.
There are world class musicians performing on the album, on every instrument.
Adjustments, my new album, showcases my voice and songs.
"Adjustments" signed to Blue Canoe Records and was released September 17th, 2021.

Go for someone with experience, and also, someone with experience teaching others to sing.
And don't trust the teller, trust the tale -- trust a great singer for advice, based on if you like how they sing.
You're hiring a teacher for their ears...Their advice... teachers inherently have preferences of vocal aesthetics.

Ask yourself - would I commit to this with my spare time?
In my opinion - you get 90% of your results using 20% of the time spent learning.  So I won't try to present too many ideas in each lesson - in hopes that you learn the lessons more thoroughly.  But it might be good for you to review them until you can recall them from memory yourself in 90% vivid detail.  So, practice what small concept I tell you, two or three times a day, for a few days, and then talk to me again at the next lesson.

    You may ask yourself:
Am I in love with singing? How committed will I be with this?
Do I plan to be professional?
You don't have to be professional to sing... You can work on it every day a little bit, with the intention of improving and sounding a way that you love.

What is my biggest passion - what do I want to do every day?
Do I try to sing every single day?
If you sing every day, you'll start to sound pretty great.
Even great singers can get rusty, if they don't take time to practice and warm up.

Am I interested in learning to sight read?
I recommend it! You should learn, so that you can have more fun singing the old jazz standards.  They're fun to express over, and with the ambiguity of jazz chords, it's important to learn how to hear unusual melodic choices that you won't find in pop music.  Singing is more than memorization, at a point in your discovery... SINGING is being able to express yourself and make choices and create art.  We want to be in love with our instrument, and build our music skills as a language.  We learn a language by talking to advanced speakers like our parents.  Music is no different, it's a language I love teaching.

Will I want to learn proper technique?
Yes! You should want to... It will feel and sound better.  Other people will interpret you as professional sounding.

Can I focus during a lesson?
You're welcome to ask me to repeat things, if you're ADD like anyone else.  People with ADHD/ADD can be the quickest learners, it turns out.

Is it okay to back out of taking lessons with you?
Yes... I don't own you, you're my student.  And I am comfortable with you canceling - even just postponing, or even canceling me as a teacher if you're not satisfied.  I don't take offense professionally.
