Acting With Ashlynn Y.
About
Hello! My name is Ashlynn and I have been acting basically my whole life. I did my first play at four years old and that started my love affair with all things acting. Growing up I did local theatre and commercials in my hometown. I moved to NYC at 19 and attended and graduated from The New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. I studied everything from Meisner, Shakespeare, Comedy, Writing, Soaps, Sitcom, Cold Reads, Commercails and the list goes on and on. After living in NYC for 6 years I traded in my subway pass for the sunny streats of LA. Since being here in LA I have worked on half a dozen TV shows, independent and studio films and have written and directed my own projects as well. I love coaching and have helped many actors discover new things about themselves that they can bring with them into their work. I have been trained by some of the best teachers in LA and NYC and I would love to share my knowledge of this beautiful craft with you to help you become the best version of yourself you can be.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The process depends on the project. If it is coaching for TV or film we will go through the material together, find all the hidden nuggets of truth. Build the character and relationships and squeeze as much as we can into the scene so it shows your range and depth.
For weekly on going classes like a scene study or monologue class we will first do body work to tune into our instruments. Create space within ourselves to really get into the work. Dive into whatever the student wants to work on wether it be an audition they just had or are going to have, a piece they saw in a film or play or even something the student has created. It will be a safe space to create and play without fear or judgement.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Graduate of The New York Academy of Dramatic Arts- NYC
Studied with various teachers throught career The list includes: Steve Simon, Judy Landis, Diane Hardin, Jeff Mowery, Norm Silver, Tom Logan, Maggie Reed, Jimmy Bohr, Julia Carey, Pamela Karamen, Eden Bernardy
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I believe in fair pricing as we are all working actors. I charge $50 an hour for coaching and for on going classes a pkg of 4 weekly classes is $250. My coaching and classes are always one on one.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching really out of the love of helping my fellow actor. I was booking and landing great jobs and my friends were asking for advice and coaching and it took off from that.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have coached both kids and adults. Everything from dramas to comedies to horror films and kids shows.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my most recent and favorite memories is when a girlfriend asked to come over before a big meeting with an agent where she had to preform for him as well. The meeting it's self can be nerve wracking and then having to preform on top of it can make a person very nervous. She chose a very heavy monologue that is also very well known. My challenge with her was to break how she was used to preforming it ( like the actress who played the character originally) and to make it something unique and memorable. We worked it over and over... really diving into a world we created for her. I am happy to say that my friend is now signed with said agent and doing very well :)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Go with your gut. I have had alot of teachers I didn't mesh with. I used to hate going to class sometimes. Acting is vulnerable and raw and you should feel 100% at peace with whomever is coaching you. It should feel like a safe space to grow and create.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be honest with yourself about what you are wanting to achieve in coaching or taking on going classes. Is it to open yourself up, feel more confident in auditions, sharpen your listening skills? Write down your goals and pick someone who you feel can help you in that process.
