About
Troy is a Professional Actor who has worked on TV, Film, and Theatre from NY to LA. Originally, hailing from Missouri he holds a BFA from Missouri State University and is a Graduate of New Actors Workshop where he trained under George Morrison, Mike Nichols, and Paul Sills. Troy has an extensive background in Improvisation. His training with Paul Sills (founder of Second City Chicago) was not only in Improvisation, but Story Theatre as well. Troy has also studied and performed with Second City (NY), UCB (LA), The PIT (NY), Chicago City Limits (NY), and NAW Mainstage (NY). He has years of experience performing long form Improv such as the Harold and fully improvised musicals. He was an original cast member in the world premiere of Luck of the Draw (a fully improvised musical) which ran Off-Broadway as well as a tour on the east coast. Troy is one the co creators and original cast members of the hit Off-Broadway show ‘The Awesome 80’s Prom’ (available through Samuel French) an audience interactive show that was developed solely through improvisation. Currently, Troy can be seen as Jim on the hit abc Comedy ‘the middle.’, now in it’s 9th season! Troy spent two seasons on the cult hit Comedy Central show ‘Strangers With Candy’ where he worked with many Second City Alum such as Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert, and Paul Dinello. He has also done recurring sketch work on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and many other TV/Film and Commercial appearances!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student, it is incredibly important to take the time that is needed establish trust and a safe, secure, and postive work environment! Nothing grows without love and support!

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching after completing New Actors Workshop in NYC as the Dept. Head at a Summer Camp in the Adirondack Mountains. Teaching kids and counselors from ages 5-55!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of students! From kids to adults, beginners to masters! I believe that a good teacher will meet the student were they are.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I taught a Professional Sitcom Acting Class. It was SO much fun to work with people who never thought they could do sitcoms realize their talents and abilities, that were within them all along!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Be specific about what you want to get out of the lessons. Are you looking to receive audition coaching for a specific role? Or looking to become a better actor/artist overall? Know what you want, so we can find it together!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
