What is your typical process for working with a new student?

It depends on what level the sudent is at.  For a Beginner, I really break the steps down , so they are easy to put together . A lot of repetition is important to get in the muscle memory of steps. Learning how to identify the music and what dance goes to what music is challenging , so I emphasize that too.   For an Intermediate/ Advanced dancer, they might want to work on mofre advanced dance patterns ....  I cater to the students needs and requests.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I taught and trained with Arthur Murray Dance School, Montreal,  Quebec, Canada for 3 years.  When I arrived in California , I started teaching , but also concntrated on learning and competing in West Coast Swing , and also Amercian clogging. Both were amazing Competition teams !

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My price for Private Lessons locally is $ 80.00 an hour for a single or a couple. Same price. If I drive

25-50  miles, I charge an extra $10 for gas  and time

50 plus  miles- I charge $20 extra for gas with a minimum of a 2 hour lesson.

Local group classes range from $15 to $20 per hour

Party Dance Instruction starts at $200 an hour, $300 for 2 hours.....

How did you get started teaching?

I have danced since I was a child-  Canadian/ Irish Stepdancing .... Jive with my older sisters and continued after the Classic Saturday Night Fever, to teach the famous John Travolta/ Stephanie routine  to town residents where I lived.

What types of students have you worked with?

 I have worked with adults.

Sorry, I teach only  16 years of age and over .

Blind, deaf, physically injured.... people who suffer from anxiety and depression. Dancing is very therapeutic.

Singles, couples, wedding couples.......

I also teach with Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines - vacationers!

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

One of my favorite events is my Dance Party in Malibu at Casa Escobar. Outside on the patio, across from the Pacific Ocean. Dining, Cocktails and Dancing Ballroom, Swing, Salsa and Western under the stars. Beautiful . Also I have recently done a fun Party Instruction to convention visitors at the historic Palm Springs Aviation Museum .  Fun !

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

I would advise to look for a teacher who is kind, patient and professional .  Someone who knows how to break the dance steps down ... and for someone who makes the lessons fun.

All of the above is me !

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

What dances do you want to concentrate on ?

Is there something special coming up ?

How much time do you want to spend to learn the dances ?

Do you have a dance partner ?  (Not necessary , but a tteacher likes to know .)
