About

Every aspect of what I do, I customize to the student. I think mass golf instrcution (magazines, tv, etc.) causes significantly more confusion than progress. As a coach, my job is to understand you and your leaning style. It allows me to give you meaningful cues that will have a lasting impact. I don't approach coaching any two students in the same way. I want to understand what golf means to you and how much time and energy you have to be able to get to your goals. I want to know what is going to make you feel like this is a successful partnership and what kind of program is going to help you succeed in getting there.

I truly enjoy connecting with people. I seek to make a personal connection with every person I work with. It helps me serve as a better coach and keeps me more connected to the people that I work with. I want to help people succeed and show them that they are capable of much more than they think..

    Frequently asked questions

First, I like to establish contact and send some goal setting sheets.  My process for improvement varies for someone who is looking to get as good as they can versus someone who just wants to not embarass themselves when they are playing in the annual company tournament or with a spouse.  It also gives me a feel for what the measuring stick is.  Do you want to break a particular number, average a ceratin score, hit so many greens, etc.

Then I like to have them come in for a sit down.  Review the goals sheets and talk about where they see their golf games and where they would like to be.  It also gives me a chance to see if the goals are in line with the amount of time and energy someone has to put into their game.

After a short discussion, I like to watch someone hit balls.  See if what they are showing me lines up with what they are saying...  Give them a few suggestions, take some notes about what I see.  It also gives them a feel for if they like my coaching style and my personality.

If we both agree that it's a good fit, I will send a Game Optimization Plan.  It will outline what I hear your goals are and a suggested gameplan for making those goals a reality.  It will also give feedback on what I saw, suggested improvments and drills and games to make the necessary changes.

I am also the owner of an indoor golf studio in North Park Hill.  At the agreement of the student, we can plan lessons at either venue.

I have been a golf professional for almost 15 years.  I am a Class A PGA Member and I'm in the process of getting certified by the PGA in Teaching and Coaching.

I prefer to sell lesson memberships.  All memberships come in monthly, 3-month, 6-month and annual lengths.  Memberships are more inclusive and designed to give you all of the access you need to make your game what you want it to be... Whether you are ready to FIND, KNOW or OWN your game, we can find a fit for you.  We also offer more traditionally based 5-lesson, 10-lesson and 10-lesson packages.

I started working at Aurora Hills in 2006.  I was able to learn a lot from the people who I worked with there and their knowledge of golf and instruction.  I don't subscribe to any form of system or method.  Your swing doesn't need to look a certain way.  How your swing looks is ultimately going to depend on all of the things previously mentioned.  We want a golf swing that works for you... A famous golf teacher in England is quoted as saying, "Golf is what the ball does".  If I'm trying to get you to conform to my swing methodology it doesn't say much about me as a teacher.

Anything you can envision.  Kids as young as 4, adults as old as 85.  Never touched a club to tour pros.  I love the challenge of learning you and finding out how to best cue you to play your best golf.  I'm not in the golf business teaching people, I'm in the people business teaching golf.  I want to connect and get to know every person I teach.

Make sure that it "feels" like a fit.  What I have found is that people turn of their critical thinking off when it comes to taking advice.  They will listen to anyone.  Make sure the teacher is explaining it in a way that makes sense to you.  The conformation should be in the way they are teaching you, not in the way you are learning.  They can know everything about the swing, if they can't tell it to you in a way that you understand, the knowledge is useless.

Set some goals.  Not in a general way, but specific.  Think about what would make it a successful partnership for you.  Set a timeline for the progress as well.  Make sure what is expected of the teacher and yourself.  Are you able/expected to practice in between?  Are there processes in place to help that?  What about feedback both ways?
