I am the Latin Grammy Award Winning Drummer and Bandleader of The New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band. I am formerly the Principal Percussionist of the Concert Band and Chief in Charge/Drummer of the Jazz Ensemble with The United States Naval Acadmy Band in Annapolis, MD. I am published by Alfred Music with my "Afro-Cuban Big band Play-Along Series" and sponsored by Yamaha, Zildjian, Remo, Lp and Vic Firth, featuring my signature drum stick MJC2 as part of The Modern Jazz Collection Series. I've been teaching for almost thirty years with great success from beginners through college and adults. I love the process of teaching and sharing my extenisve experience with my students while we develop their ability to solve problems and ultimately teach themselves.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Meet the student and assess where they currently are and where they'd like to go musically. I would share an overview of my process and the many options available to the student as to how we move forward with the best course of study.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Masters of Percussion Performance degree (MM)from The University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Percussion Performance (BM) from The Hartt School of Music. I have held Adjunct Music Professor appointments at Georgetown and George Mason University and have done clinics and masterclasses throughout the nation and abroad.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I do my best to create payment plans that are realisitic with my students, as the ultimate goal is to keep the lessons consistent.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching simply because I had great teachers and I learned early on the importance of solid foundational training and proper guidance make all the difference in the world.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with young children all the way up to senior citizens. Learning has no age limits.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My New York Afro Bop Alliance Big Band recently toured throughout the US in support of our latest release "UPWARDS" on the ZoHo Record Label.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Always seek the very best. A great teacher will set you up for success, regeardless of your musical aspirations.
