What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I ask students what medium they want to work with and what they would like to learn, along with how often they want to have lessons.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA and an MFA in painting. I have been painting professionally and teaching for 30 years.

Private lessons are. $50. per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I planned to teach after receiving my MFA and taught at the college level for some years. I have also given private and group lessons. More recently I taught art to middle school students at a private school. I have been giving private art lessons for 30 years.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages from 4-84
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have a student who paints landscapes. After giving her a painting lesson, I went for a walk in the woods and suddenly saw trees the way she paints them. She had shown me a new way to look at the forest!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Generally speaking, teachers who have been teaching for a longer time will bring greater expertise to their lessons. It is also very important to have a good rapport between teacher and student.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It would be good for a student to think about short and long term goals. Is the student interested in depicting what they see or expressing themselves? Is drawing an important issue or color?
