    Frequently asked questions

I ask students what medium they want to work with and what they would like to learn, along with how often they want to have lessons.

I have a BFA and an MFA in painting.  I have been painting professionally and teaching for 30 years.

Private lessons are. $50. per hour.

I planned to teach after receiving my MFA and taught at the college level for some years.  I have also given private and group lessons.  More recently I taught art to middle school students at a private school.  I have been giving private art lessons for 30 years.

    All ages from 4-84

I have a student who paints landscapes.  After giving her a painting lesson, I went for a walk in the woods and suddenly saw trees the way she paints them.  She had shown me a new way to look at the forest!

Generally speaking, teachers who have been teaching for a longer time will bring greater expertise to their lessons. It is also very important to have a good rapport between teacher and student.

It would be good for a student to think about short and long term goals.  Is the student interested in depicting what they see or expressing themselves?  Is drawing an important issue or color?
