About
I teach online or live lessons for those who live close by. My studio is in N. Windham, CT.
I have a B.S. in Music Education/Piano Performance. I have taught piano for over 30 years to students ages 5 through adult, using many types of curriculum. I have also played many other instruments. Because I learned viola about 10 years ago and needed to learn an unfamiliar clef, I am uniquely qualified to understand the struggles of adult students. I seek to find the music you will enjoy. I am a church pianist, wedding pianist, choral accompanist, children's musicals accompanist, orchestral pianist, and also play viola in an orchestra.

Barbara is an excellent piano teacher, has a great system in place to identify your current skills and take them to the next level (or how many levels you wish!). Barbara is patient, kind, flexible, and professional. Highly recommended!

Barbara is wonderful. Very patient and knowledgeable. As an adult student picking up piano again, Barbara balanced my lessons very well between being motivating and challenging. Been studying with her for few years, and much more to come.

Barbaras extensive knowledge and experience combined with her calm encouraging presence make her an outstanding piano teacher for children and adults! My child and I both began taking lessons about 1.5 years ago and Im consistently impressed with Barbaras ability to work with both of us in ways that fit who we are and where we are at in our understanding of piano playing.

She is reliable, patient, flexible and accommodating to family schedules. Also, she carefully prepares her students for the recital, and thoughtfully reinforces the importance of practice time.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The way I work with a new student depends on the student, their age and level. I assess the level. If the student has never played piano, I want the student, no matter the age, to leave the first lesson able to play a piece. If they already played piano, I want them to work on a piece on their level and sight read at lower levels. I assess strengths and weaknesses and choose curriculum from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Music Education/Piano Performance from UConn. I have taught all ages and levels for 30 years+.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Half hour lessons are $22.00, 45 minutes are $33.00, one hour lessons are $44.00.
How did you get started teaching?
Music is, and has always been, one of the most important things in my life. I enjoy passing that on to others.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ages 5 - 85. Levels pre-reading to advanced. Students who pick things up easily and those who struggle.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
An adult who has told me that her piano lessons are the highlight of her week.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Price and driving distance should not be the first criteria. Make sure the teacher can work well with your playing level and that you can work with the teacher.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what type of music you primarily want to learn and the teacher's expertise in that area, but be open to learning more. Ask if the teacher is patient, or demanding, etc. You may work better with particular types.
