About

Many past clients and students of mine have referred to me as an, "Edu-tainer". As a professional singer in Florida who also has over 10 years experience as a certified music educator, I've developed the philosophy that learning can be fun and structured simultaneously.

Vocally, I believe in cross-training the voice and my expertise is in: vowel pronunciation, diction, range growth, breath control, pure tonality, use of the different vocal registers, and artistic expression. Musical styles I have trained in and provide coaching for are: Classical, Musical Theater, and Jazz. I am rather passionate about healthy vocal pedagogy , vocal technique, and teaching students how to sing using their full potential in all vocal registers.

Musically, I am able to teach those just starting out on their musical understanding of pitch and beat while also challenging more advanced students to analyze musical themes through a variety of ways. I do teach music theory and sight-reading/ ear-training as well if needed.

Personally, I began my career as a singer at the age of 13 and have sung in several choirs, musical theater productions, and special events in multiple states across the US over the course of the last 21 years. I've studied voice all throughout middle-school and high-school, received a scholarship to study voice in University and then graduated in 2007 with a degree in Music. After that I then became a certified music instructor who has taught music for Prek-8th grade in the Florida public schools. I currently reside in Florida where my husband and I have appeared twice at the Tampa Bay Rays stadium to sing the National Anthem, have been in productions at both Manatee and Sarasota Players Theaters and have sung several concerts with Sarasota's professional Choral Artists. In the last three years prior to the pandemic I've also been singing around the state with my husband performing our own shows for a variety of special events. We are known as "The Martin Duo". More information about me/us can be found here: www.themartinduo.com

More recently my husband and I have completed narration and character voices for a 5 book series through Worldbook.com "The Adventures of Young H.C Andersen" and I am a current Cast Member for Disney Parks. I also am currently in New York Vocal Coaching's Teacher Training Certification summer program learning from one of the best vocal teachers in the country.

I enjoy helping others free their voice :-)

    Frequently asked questions

Whether you sign up for a one time lesson, or a block of voice lessons on my website, you will receive a 2 page personalized PDF with your "Vocal Plan" based on my observations and your goals. This essentially is your "homework" with suggested exercises and resources for your unique voice and situation. This "outside of class" work also enables you to take classes to learn, practice, or review vocal technique and then do some independent practice and study to strengthen one's ability to learn on their own, but with some form of guidance. I do this to allow the opportunity for extra practice and goals in addition to the in person vocal coaching you receive in your singing lessons live.

    1.  You need to find a voice instructor with credentials that'll guarantee they won't encourage you to do anything that may harm your voice.  So look for those with a degree or specific training in teaching voice.  Someone may be a wonderful singer, but you don't want a teacher or coach who just asks you to be like them, based on how they were taught.  That type of teaching through imitation may not help you as much. You want to work with someone who can help you achieve healthy vocal skills in your own unique way, developing exercises specifically for your needs.

    2.  Style.  What style have you already been trained in? Or what style are you seeking to be trained in?  This is important as some teachers train by the "Classical Method" while others are geared towards Musical Theater/ Jazz/ Showtunes, and others specialize in pop and advanced distortion techniques etc...  ( I personally can teach nearly any style, but I COACH and guide predominately musical theater singers)

    3.  Know that a coach helps you stylize a song and tell the story according to the specific genre you're singing in.  A vocal coach can help you prep for a specific type of audition and etc... whereas a voice teacher is a vocal technician that can instruct you in vocal exercises and analyze what's happening in the voice regardless of what style you're singing. ( Unfortunately, these terms are used interchangeably at times)

    4. Try a couple different instructors and find the one you connect with the most.  We all have different personalities and styles of instruction :-)
