What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Get to know her and what genre of music she likes. Familiarize her with the keyboard. Teach basic concepts, like high notes and low notes. Teach a simple melody by rote so she can feel the joy of accomplishing playing music. Start teaching how to read music. Play from a book.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started playing piano when I was 8 years old. I accompanied a chorus when I was 11. I minored in music at New York University. I taught for Music Simply Music.

I started teaching by working for someone else.

My 6-year old granddaughter sat with me at the piano and we figured out how to play a song by ear.

Choose someone that you like, is patient, and you can communicate with easily.
