Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
One of the first things I do is learn about my student and their goals. That way I can tailor the lessons and make sure we are on track. I get to know and help set timelines for practice and lesson frequency. We'll begin with getting to know each other and then the piano.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was classically trained in piano for 10 years and in vocal performance for over 15 years. Reaching a lower advanced level of performance and middle-advanced music theory, I continue to hone my skills through my own learning and practice, setting an example for my students. I have been teacher and president for the children and youth Sunday school and music programs for over 10 years.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Choose a teacher who loves their students and cares about making the lessons fun and meaningful.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Why do you want to take lessons? What do you wish to accomplish? What styles of music do you desire to learn? How much time do you have to devote on a daily/weekly basis to learning and practice? Do you want individual or family lessons?
