About this pro

I have an extensive background in theater. I started dancing, singing, and acting at an early age. I danced in my first musical at a community theater when I was 13. I attened a performing arts high school where I started studying theater. I went on to Howard University and recieved a BFA in theater and then went to Mason Gross School of the Arts and recieved a MFA in theater. I went to New York after that and continued to act and sing throughout my 20 years there. I also started teaching in NY. Now I am married and my husband's job has brought me to Florida. I teach theater right now in a private school in Juno Beach and I am looking to work with students privately.

I have always had a passion for acting and performing. I also happen to love working with children. I have been able to combine both my love for the performing arts and my love for young people with my work in the past 20 years. It's fun to perform and it builds confidence which is what I really appreciate seeing as students build that skill.

Janis was absolutely amazing! My daughter is a 10 year old talented 4th grader, but was super shy when she first started working with Ms. Janis a year ago. Today, she is vibrant, speaks in public with confidence, sings, and even quotes Shakespeare! I really love how much fun my child says she had whenever she finishes a class or session with Ms. Janis. This woman is a master of her craft and more importantly, she's sharing all of her knowledge and discipline with my kid and I couldn't be happier😊

Janis is simply great! I took my twelve year old daughter to her for acting lessons. Not only is my daughter more confident but Janis has helped improve her acting skills tremendously while having fun. I’ve never seen her so excited to learn. I wish I would have brought her sooner. Thank you Janis! We’ll thank you at the Oscars! 😊

The instructor is very savvy and creative. She was able to build my daughter’s confidence all while sharpening her acting skills. The instructor made it fun, lively, and an all around wonderful experience.

I absolutely love Miss Janis! She’s done an incredible job working with my 12 year old daughter. Miss Janis is kind, patient, and very insightful. She knows how to help my daughter through her shyness. My daughter has become more confident and has really improved on her acting skills. She’s also very eager to work with Miss Janis because she learns so much and has fun while doing so.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

On my first visit with a student, I am trying to get to know the student and assess their current skill level. The first visit will include vocal exercises, movement exercises, and impov. Also, if a student has a monologue or text they are currently working on, I would want to work on that.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I started dancing, singing, and public speaking at an early age. I attended a performing arts high school. I recived a BFA and an MFA in acting. I have work experience in New York working with many children through movement, music and acting.

How did you get started teaching?

I started teaching as a teaching artist through a company in New York City called The Periwinkle National Theater Company. I realized working with that group, that I have a gift for working with young people.

What types of students have you worked with?

I have worked with ages 4 - 18.
