Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I love working with new students, whether they are a complete beginner starting lessons for the first time or established students transferring from another teacher. Every student has his or her own way of learning and I work diligently to learn how the student learns and tailor their lessons to their specific needs and learning style. During the first several lessons we will establish practice expectations, set realistic goals, and learn the fundamentals of the process of playing and practicing. Once lessons start I suggest sticking with it for at least three months to get a realistic feel for progress.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
19 Years uniterrupted Private Lessons Instruction. My professional training includes Douglas Anderson School of the Arts 1990-1992, Florida State College 1993-1995 , Stetson School of Music 1991-1994 University of South Florida 1995-1997, Southern New Hampshire University 2021-Current.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Lessons are sold in one month blocks of 4-30 minute lessons and 4-60 minute lessons. I do not have registration fees or long term contracts.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching at a young age and fell in love with helping others learn, since then I never looked back! Teaching is not a job, it is a love. I have the opportunity to inspire others and to unlock hidden talents that otherwise may never have an opportunity to shine.
What types of students have you worked with?
Ages 4 through adult. Most of my students are between the ages of 6-14. I enjoy working with all ages and skill levels. I also have experience working with Special Needs students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Local music festivals are always a favorite. Seeing my own talented musicians take stage and meeting local talent working so hard to make it is very rewarding.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure you are compatible! Discuss the teachers policies and ask lots of questions.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students who want to take lessons need to understand the commitment needed to succeed. They need to make sure they are willing to set aside time to practice and time to play.
