Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Wolfkant Maximiliano is an enthusiastic and creative teacher of Latin percussion. His expertise encompasses congas, bongos, cajón, djembe, and auxiliary percussion. His teaching method is focused on rudiments in order to develop technique, proper posture and personal sound language.
He also advocates for fluent improvising and traditional grooves such as tumbao, blues, flamenco, rumba, bossa nova, samba, etc. He believes in a teaching style that encourages motor movements to boost brain development, co-ordination and cognitive abilities.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Wolfkant has a background in music production as well as performance. He has produced and coordinated music shows and festivals in Miami, New York, North Carolina, and Colorado. He has also performed in music festivals and events such as Okeechobee Music Festival, Grass Roots Music & Dance Festival, Ithaca Festival of the Arts, Ithaca Reggae Fest, Red Rocks Amphitheater, Wynwood Art Walk and a handful of other venues. With a musical fluidity in a variety of genres, Wolf often performs within spheres of Latin and jazz around Miami with many local artists, including his wife, classical pianist Hannah Junco. Wolf and Hannah are working on a music project together called Classical Unleashed, an opportunity for the classical pianist and Afro-Cuban percussionist to dialogue and merge into a cross-cultural aesthetic.
