Carlyn Byrd
About
Hi! My name is Carlyn Byrd and I have been playing the cello for fourteen years. I graduated from Tarpon Springs High School in 2017 and received my associates in arts degree from St. Petersburg College in spring of 2020. In December 2023, I received my bachelors degree in music performance at the University of Central Florida.
I really value and respect the relationship between the teacher and the student. If it doesn't work out, thats totally okay. Learning is personal. I have honestly had teachers that were great players but it just didn't work out with learning styles or personality conflicts. I value the students goals and what they want to learn or play. In my lessons, I have each student do a balance of theory, technique, and fun. I want you to enjoy the music and the art that you are producing, as well as, loving music more when coming out of your lesson. A primary emphasis of mine is that my students teach me as well. My students teach me how to teach and what does and doesn't work.
I love working with people and sharing a common love for music. Being able to engage in music and share the need for classical music in todays age is also very important to me; doing that as a team of teachers and students makes me feel like I am making a difference.

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching in my youth orchestras and the schools I attended. As section leader for the ensembles I played in, I helped to give feedback, fingerings, bowings and general advice. Having teachers and orchestra directors who love what they do really contributed to my love for teaching music. Those teachers and music directors gave me opportunities to teach others and learn more about myself.
