What is your typical process for working with a new student?
1. Appraise the student's skill level physical ability
2. Discuss and appraise the student's golfing and fitness goals
3. Gain an understanding of the student's personality type and the student/instructor "fit"

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over 40 years in golf. Three years of training with the Large Brothers which included watching them teach the Tour players of the day and their regular students of varying ability many of whom were women including the Curtis Cup Team.
I have worked with or stood alongside some of the games leading players and instructors including Butch, Bill and Craig Harmon; Hall of Famer Randy Smith; David Leadbetter, 2003 PGA Champion Shaun Micheel and Open Champion and Ryder Cup Captain Darren Clarke.

No. All my programs are bespoke.
How did you get started teaching?
I started as an Assistant Professional to Mr Jim Large in England in 1976.
Jim Large was one of 3 golfing brothers that included Bill and Ted. The Harmons of the UK if you like, back in the 70s and 80s. Highly respected for their vast knowledge and playing ability. Jim was schooled by the late, great legendary John Jacobs.
Simplicity was their philosophy. Working on motion, not positions.
What types of students have you worked with?
My student profile is broad and has evolved through recommendation not strategy.
From beginners to Tour Players; juniors, ladies and seniors and wealthy industry leaders. Both international and domestic.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In August 2016 European Tour Player Tommy Fleetwood invested in a PlaneSWING on the recommendation of his coach Alan Thompson. His season turned around almost immediately.
From his Tour card looking in jeopardy after a string of missed cuts, Tommy recorded successes in the Middle East and Europe plus a 2nd place in Mexico and a string of Top 10 finishes resulting in him being awared a PGA Tour card.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Call or visit to discusss your circumstances. Share your golfing goals. Understand how the instructor works and what method of teaching he/she has had most success with.
Honesty is critical. Understand how much time your instructor expects from you to achieve your goals and determine whether or not you can realistically deliver.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Understand that any student/teacher relationship is a partnership. the physical aspect of coaching is just one element. Try to understand what value your desired instructor should bring in respect of the mental game and golfing fitness, either personally or via alliances with other experts.
