Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Prior to the first session, I conduct an informal interview and assessment via telephone and MicroSoft Teams to tailor sessions to the client's needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from St. Leo University with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. I am certified with the state of Florida in Regular Education K-6th, Exceptional Student Education K-12th, ESOL K-12th, and Reading K-12th. I have over 10 years of experience teaching in the Florida public school system with rigorous professional training in reading, writing, math, social skills, and goal-setting. In addition to my educational repertoire, I also possess over 10 years of work experience at safety and youth shelters providing crisis interention, individual and group counseling, and spiritual guidance. For the past 13 years, I have also been a life-coach to one of my clients.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $40 per 1-hour session or a discounted rate of $35 for 3 booked sessions. All payments are processed through Zelle.
How did you get started teaching?
I grew up bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English. Teaching Spanish and English is a great vehicle to blend two beautiful cultures. I feel excited about helping students immerse in a second language in which they can expand and enhance their lives with enriching cultural experiences. Prior to teaching, I worked in the shelter scenes with people of diverse ages and walks of life. It was very gratifying helping clients overcome mental, emotional, and physical challenges, in addition to providing them enriching life and spiritual guidance.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with English and Spanish Language Learners of various ages and diverse learning disabled students. I have also worked with abused adults and children struggling with trauma, mental illness, and addictions.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am happy to have taught a native Spanish Speaking family basic English fluency skills throughout the course of 12 weeks. I am also thrilled to have assisted a third-grade student gain proficiency in reading comprehension during a school semester. In addition to language teaching, my most recent victory was assisting a friend turn his entire life around all within 1 month. Prior to this accomplishment, he was threatened to be evited, almost died in surgery, and did not have a dime to his name. Within 30 days, I guided him to go from ground zero to living a life of purpose, peace, joy, financial security, and spiritual contentment. Yes, miracles do exist if you allow someone to guide you into the well of possibilities!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would advise clients to hire a teacher like me, certified with the state of Florida, and skilled in effective teaching strategies. If pursuing guidance and well-being, I would advise clients to hire someone like me, with extensive experience in spiritual counseling, crisis intervention, and life-coaching.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Clients should think about their purpose for learning or seeking guidance (e.g., academic, business, enrichment, personal development) and their commitment (e.g., times and days available) to their goal.
