Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
A typical workout would be tailored to the player. We may need to work on hitting, fielding, base running, throwing, speed and agility, conditioning, footwork, etc. There is an endless amount of work that can be done. It depends on what the ball player needs. A general assesment will be made to help create the player plan.
I love to hit, field, run, and throw. I love to work. I have access to an indoor facility and access to a field. We can get the work done!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I love baseball and was born into a baseball family. I got drafted out of high school by the KC Royals in 2004 and played for 12 seasons. My last year was 2015 in Triple-A with the Washington Nationals. I have been coaching now for the past five years professionally as well. I currently am the High-A manager for the Texas Rangers. I have a combined 17 years of professional experience and still currently affiliated with the Texas Rangers.
How did you get started teaching?
Baseball has been a part of my life from a very early age. I was always leading and trying to be the best player I could. The teaching was going on the whole time I was playing. As I got towards the end of my career, I felt the passion to share the knowledge I have gained over the years. I enjoy teaching baseball and will work hard. Everyone learns different and I feel with my experience as a player and now current coach in professional baseball, I can relate to different scenarios that the game may present.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of ball players. I have worked with ball players at the tee ball level all the way up to the Major League level. I have worked with non english speaking ball players as well. With a strong representation of the spanish culture in professional baseball, I am blessed to be able to work with players from all over the world.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would recommend that they do the research on who they want to hire. Are they experienced? Can they relay the message clearly? Do they really know what they are talking about or just acting like they know? Can they break their message down in multiple ways? Are they energetic? Do they have quality equipment?
