MESSAGE SUMMER SESSION START DATE: 5/20
I have been a swim instructor for three years now. I teach kids ages 2 to 14 years old. I also help with stroke refinement for more advanced swimmers. Along with teaching swim lessons I am a chemical engineering student at the University of South Carolina. My favorite part about teaching kids to swim is seeing their big smile after meeting a new goal! Feel free to reach out with any questions!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first swim lesson I take most of the time to get to know my swimmer in the water. This helps me gauge their current swim abilities and figure out how I will help them become a safer and better swimmer. Towards the end of the lesson I like to sit down with the swimmers parent or caretaker and discuss any goals they have for their child as well as my goals as an instructor. My goals as an instructor fall into three categories. First, safety skills. Second, comfort in the water. And third, stroke technique.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am American Red Cross certified in lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and first aid. Along with my certifications I have three years of lifeguarding experience, two of which as a supervisor. I always carry basic first aid and emergency response gear to every lesson.
I also have three years of swim instruction experience, and I myself was a competitive swimmer for ten years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing can fluctuate depending on the specific needs of every client. An important note is that all the lessons I give are one on one. I have found students progress faster when I can give them my full attention. If there is more than one student I can do one on one lessons back to back.
Trial Lesson (30 minutes) - $20
30 minutes (recommended for ages 2-6) - $25
45 minutes (recommended for stroke refinement/ athlete swimmers) - $35
60 minutes - $45
Package pricing available upon request.
How did you get started teaching?
I stumbled into the world of swim instruction kind of on accident. I was in a public pool helping my nephew swim and the pool manager offered me a job. Since then I have fell in love with it!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all sorts of students. Including students with ADHD, behavioral disorders, autism, Down syndrome, and those hard of hearing.
When I work with these students I make it a point to make an instruction plan with the parents so we I can better teach their child.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
When looking for a swim instructor it is not only important they are qualified, but that they have a connection with the swimmer. You want the instructor and child to have a bond built with trust, respect, and of course fun!
