About
I'm a 3rd-generation seamstress, quilter and handweaver and I've been teaching for more than 30 years. My skills were inherited from mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who were accomplished Southern seamstresses and quilters. I am recognized by the Georgia Council for the Arts and the State of Georgia Legislation as a Master Artist practicing a Georgia Traditional Art-Handweaving (2007).
I believe one of the most effective ways of teaching and learning is thru direct transmission of knowledge...from teacher to student.
I teach all levels of sewing; garment alterations; machine & hand quilting; fabric printing, marbling & painting; tapestry weaving, handloom weaving, strip weaving.
I'm also available for Consultation for those with experience but needing problem-solving assistance.
I have taught people of all ages, in public & private schools, community & art organizations and museums.
I teach under the umbrella of Center for Survival Arts, Inc., where we also provide an After School Arts Program, Badge activities for scout troops, fund raisers for PTSAs and other organizations, group workshops and individual classes. We often invite other artists to demonstrate their craft or teach classes.
Professional affiliations include the Handweavers Guild of America, the Smithsonian, The High Museum of Art Atlanta, The AIDS Memorial Quilt Foundation, Very Special Arts of Georgia, and City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs.
I enjoy the freedom of expression one has in being creative, and seeing the accomplishments of those I teach. It's very important for me to share my knowledge with anyone willing to learn, especially the next generations of young artists, carrying forward the legacy of the women of my family.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first session together is typically spent in a bit of dialogue to become acquainted, learn about their goals, and explain my teaching process. We then get right to work.
