I had my lesson with Ms. Jennifer earlier today. We reviewed my last performance at the SLAS showcase and I would love to share my feedback!
In the past year since I’ve been taking lessons with Ms. Jennifer, I’ve noticed a major improvement in my singing! When we reviewed my last SLAS showcase performance, I was honestly surprised because when compared to the last showcase, the two performances are like night and day. I couldn’t believe how amazing I sounded! Although I was the one that did the practicing, Ms. Jennifer has been an amazing teacher! She has shown me how to properly perform exercises and why. In my lessons, I generally don’t have a lot of questions because she explains what she is talking about very well and is very knowledgeable.
When we went entirely to Zoom in March/April, I honestly was a bit worried because when I decided to take SLaS lessons, I wanted an in person teacher. Now, after noticing how far I’ve progressed, I’m so happy Ms. Jennifer is my teacher and we’ve been able to continue our lessons online!
I greatly appreciate Ms. Jennifer and her teaching style. It’s very evident in our lessons that she is passionate about teaching others singing. I’ve had many classical violin teachers that are very strict and I used to get extremely anxious before my lessons with them. With Ms. Jennifer, I never feel this way because if I make a mistake or if I’m not getting something down quite right, she has shown a lot of patience and will do everything she can to remedy the problem. She’ll of course pinpoint where and why I didn’t do something correct, but she’ll also do the same when I did do something correct. I really want to thank Ms. Jennifer and her hard work with me.
For the longest time, I used to say “I don’t sing” or “I sing really badly.” Now, when people ask, I can confidently say that I’m a singer!

    Frequently asked questions

The first step to getting started with any of our classes is to register for a no-obligation PROFESSIONAL VOICE EVALUATION (PVE) where we can meet with you to assess your voice and give you our professional feedback, and hopefully get you into our schedule. To register, please visit the website at www.singlikeastar.com.  Regular lessons focus on developing every skill needed for excellent singing.  We start with Breath Management- breathing and support.  Then we work on the belt voice, or chest (Lower) register.  Then we develop and build your head voice or upper register.  Then we work on building a great mix voice, to develop the "high, strong, and powerful" sounds of todays musical theater and pop singers.  Then we develop advanced musical skills like vibrato, dynamics and power.  Finally we work on riffs and runs and style.  And of course, we work on songs! We believe singers should focus on the styles of singing THEY love rather than a teacher's favorite style.  We are experts at teaching every style including pop, rock, R&B, gospel, jazz, country, musical theater, and even classical.

At Sing Like A Star Studios you will learn the vocal technique of the stars from a music industry veteran who has been there- Tricia Grey, MM is a professional singer and voice teacher with an unbeatable combination- a Master’s Degree in music, over 40 years’ professional experience singing, writing songs, recording, teaching, and performing in the competitive music industry, and ongoing research in vocal science.

Tricia Grey, MM has spent many years researching the science of vocal production and she is an expert on vocal technique and pedagogy.  She authors instructional manuals used for training voice teachers throughout the world.  Her experience and knowledge of the music industry along with her educational background provide an unbeatable combination.

The Sing Like a Star method is a unique and powerful approach to vocal training that incorporates the latest research in the fields of vocology and vocal science- applied to contemporary singing!  SLaS is the preferred training used by R & B, gospel, country, pop, rock, Broadway, and musical theatre singers throughout the world. It is the most sought after singing technique in the music industry today!

All instruction at Sing Like a Star Studios is based on the principles of the textbook YOU can Sing like a
Star!  by Tricia Grey, MM. The Sing Like a Star vocal method develops vocalists who can sing low notes to extremely high notes with a powerful, consistent, and soulful sound- the commercial vocal quality the music industry is looking for!  SLaS technique will develop a huge range,  power, flexibility, control for riffs and runs, and your personal vocal style.

SING LIKE A STAR SINGERS' SHOWCASES!

The Sing Like a Star Singers' Showcases are held twice yearly at the beautiful Strand Theater in Marietta Square.

PURPOSE OF THE SHOWCASE: To give Sing Like a Star students a chance to showcase their new vocal skills in a professional theatre environment in order to become better performers and singers.

At SLaS we alternate between several months of focusing on technique and vocal improvement with two months of focusing on performing, singing songs, and stage skills. We have two showcases per year: Spring and Fall.

Let us show you how to take your performing and singing skills to the next level!  Sing Like a Star Studios offers regular performance opportunities to currently enrolled students at a beautiful state-of-the-art professional theater.  These fun and inspiring shows give our singers the chance to put their new skills to work in a professional environment- complete with lights, sound, and professional video recording, and a professional photographer.

By performing in the showcases, Sing Like a Star students display their new vocal skills in a professional theater environment and become more experienced and polished performers and singers.  Every time you perform you will become confident!  We review the professional video recordings of your performance so you can learn from each performing experience.

The Sing Like a Star Singers’ Showcases are for performers of all ages.  From beginner to professional, we all improve with each performance we do- especially with tools such as the video to review and learn from.

We even have a professional choreographer to help you with your moves!

A question for you:  Have you ever taken a voice lesson and left that teacher’s studio wondering what the purpose of the lesson was?  Have you taken numerous lessons without seeing the improvements you were looking for?  Does the process of improving your voice seem mysterious?  Has your teacher ever explained exactly what is going on with your vocal folds and the rest of the vocal mechanism when you sing?

Often vocal training is presented with undefined objectives, vague feedback, and no plan for developing specific muscular coordination. These ineffective lessons typically consist of a random “warm-up” followed by numerous repetitions of a song.  They deliver little actual vocal improvement because they are not targeted at improving specific muscular coordination and efficiency.

At Sing Like a Star we have a better method. Our SLaS training is grounded in cutting-edge research in vocal science applied to contemporary singing styles; the method is based on defined, specific objectives and measurable outcomes, known in education as quantitative assessment. Rather than ineffective and random warm-ups that have no meaning to the student and result in little change, The Eight Steps of Vocal Development  is a specific plan of musical and vocal skill building.

We start with an assessment of your current vocal strengths and weaknesses that tells us your vocal category.  This happens at the introductory GTKY Session.  Then your teacher designs a specific lesson plan for you, which is updated weekly. As you progress through The Eight Steps of Vocal Development you are building efficient muscular coordination, eliminating your old bad habits and replacing them with good ones.

How committed are you?  Are you willing to practice every day?  Without committment to hard work on your part, even the greatest technique in the world will do no good.  Anything you want to achieve with your voice can be done- one step at a time! With this method you will soon be able to sing like you never dreamed you could sing!  You will suddenly find your voice doing things you never thought it could do- things that formerly seemed impossible are now easy for you because you have trained the vocal muscles to function efficiently.  AND we teach you how to sing with style- how to sing great riffs and runs- and the scales those riffs and runs come from, so you can learn to create your own improvisations rather than copying another artist’s licks.
