Believers Center For Performing Arts In Motion, Inc.
About
We are Believers Center, where we believe in you and dreams come true! We are a fitness center for youth specializing in before/after school, karate, dance and acting class.
We teach Universal Shorei Goju Karate. We are determined to empower every student to be all that they can be. We focus on our students strengths, while giving challenges to improve where needed.
Students are always encouraged to be the best version of themselves through hard work, dedication and giving their best in everything they do.
Students benefit from classes by improving self esteem, confidence, cardiovascular endurance, muscular fitness, and flexibility.
Students learn respect for self and others, how to be responsible, how to properly punch, block, kick and self defense techniques.
Students are tested every 3-6months to advance to their next belt, if ready. We teach our students sparring techniques and kata.
We believe that our classes are for everyone and welcome you to join us. We are virtual during the weekdays and have in person sessions on Saturday's.
We love our youth and are committed to giving them the tools needed to succeed! They truly are the future of the world!
I am a Illinois state certified physical education and dance teacher for K-12, AFAA group fitness certified and first aid/CPR certified. I have over 20 years of experience in karate. I grew up with parents who were martial artists and owned a dojo on the Southside of Chicago. Participating in their program changed my life, helping me to discover my strengths. I learned a better way to deal with conflict and found my skills transferred to other activities such as basketball and dance.

The BEST part of doing what I do is witnessing a student overcome a challenge they once had. I get to celebrate with the student and know that what I am doing is truly making a difference.
I also love partnering with our families to help support their child. I enjoy building relationships with each family and seeing our parents connect inside the dojo and outside.
Community relationship building is my heart!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to give parents an opportunity to share any concerns or reasons for enrollment. I then get to know the student through instruction time and I'm able to determine areas to work on that will strengthen and empower the child.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a physical education teacher. I am a 3rd degree black belt. I began my study at the age of 10. I am soon to be 38. My life revolved around karate as a child growing up with parents that were blackbelts. We participated in tournaments and many weekends were devoted to this. I have created a program that includes the best skills learned from being a student who struggled with learning in the past, a p.e.teacher and experience from owning another dojo in the past.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Yes. Our classes are $75 a month. Students can choose to do drop in classes for $20 a session or private lessons for $50/hr
How did you get started teaching?
I was encouraged to always teach what I had already learned to someone else. I believe we remember what we share with others. As I advanced and received my Jr. Blackbelt I would always assists my parents, who were also my sensei. You have no choice when your parents are instructors and you genuinely love karate. It becomes a part of who you are.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all students, from all walks of life. We have had students with physical, mental, behavioral conditions, but no matter who or what challenges, we have seen growth and greatness in every student who gives us the time and commitment. Some things take longer than others to see, but with consistency we strongly believe all students will RISE and SHINE in their own respect.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Meeting some of my students in person for the very first time due to covid. We worked together virtually since November 2020 and finally in July 2021 we met. One of my students said, "It was so awesome to meet you in person. You were marvelous." I am so grateful to work with every student I am blessed with. Every child is so unique and has something special to offer the world. It's an honor to work with the youth and to especially positively impact their lives.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
