About

My teaching approach: Learning to play an instrument should not be a chore. Playing music is fun. Learning to play new things should be, too! The main focus of your lesson will be finding and refining your musical goals. This will provide the platform for all of the material covered and in what order. Since everyone learns and progresses at their own pace, lessons are structured with that in mind. While it _cannot_ be guaranteed that you will see the same results as others but you will see progress and improvement if you take the time to practice. And that _can_ be guaranteed!

My influences are: As I started playing at at the tender age of 11, I have been influenced by many musical greats over the years. I would also like to state that there are no styles of music I hate. I simply do not listen to what I do not enjoy. Short list: Musicians: Santana, Clapton, Eric Johnson, John McLaughlin, Benny Goodman, Django Reinhart, Keith Urban. Groups: Yes, Kansas, Zep

My guitar lessons take place in: The teacher's studio online or the student's home. Lessons are available anywhere within Champaign County at the student's home or in my studio. Online lessons are available as well. Guitar Techniques: Guidance In Equipment Selection, Recording and Production, Song Writing, Scales and Exercises, Music Theory, Reading Music, Jamming Skills, Improvisation, Performance, Vocal Accompaniment, Slide Guitar, Fingerstyle, Open tuning, Rhythm guitar, Lead guitar

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following: I ask you questions. :-) Some are just to get to know each other while others are designed to find out both skill level (if already playing) and understanding of the fundamentals (note-reading musical terms and expressions).

If a term is used and you expresses uncertainty as to how it pertains to the subject at hand, I will give a short explanation along with an audio illustration. If you do already play, I would simply ask to play a song you enjoy.

A guitar lesson with me might entail the following (sample guitar lesson format) Discussion about how your week has been going to determine if time to study for the lesson was made. Review of the past lesson material. I'll ask if there's any problems with the material, correcting the technical issues (notes, theory, execution) as they arise.

Progress is noted, affirmed and the student is encouraged to continue in making progress each week.

The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following: Sorry, I do not deal in such ideas in my teaching. The most important thing is to get you "up to speed", playing music and songs you enjoy. I do not measure against the "ideal" as that can make it difficult if not impossible to see improvements that are being made week to week, often in small increments.

The above is an example of "filling in the blanks". Sections are from prompts on the website. If you have any questions about any of this, please let me know. Additional information is always available.
