Michael K.

After over 3 years of playing guitar with Luke Fischer, I can hands down say that it has been a fantastic experience learning and practicing with him! From simple electric riffs of classic rock songs, to full acoustic rhythmic sections of worship songs, weve made many recordings of different sounds using programs like GarageBand or Logic Pro X. If you, or someone you know has any interest in learning guitar, or even if you do already play, Luke is excellent at engaging and incorporating all kinds of playing styles into one that you may even call your own.

Frequently asked questions

First, I try to get a clearer idea of the student's prior experience with music and what his/her goals are. The student's goals help us figure out what comes next. I will take a different approach for someone who wants to play for fun at home as compared to someone who wants to practice every day to be in a band asap.

I have a professional music degree in classical guitar performance from a reputable school (Lawrence University in Appleton, WI). I also have a master's degree in school psychology, which helps me to customize lessons and music activities to the student's preferences and goals.

Your first lesson is FREE After that the regular lesson rate is $25 for a half hour lesson. Full hour lessons are $50.
I offer multiple location options including my home in Palatine, in the student's home (at an increased rate depending on distance), or online. Online lessons cost $20 per half hour.

I started teaching guitar lessons when I was in college for music nearly 20 years ago. Since then I have taught individual lessons, group lessons, and music classes.

I have worked with students as young as 6 years old up to older adults over 40. I have worked with students who play at church, play in garage bands, perform as a soloist, or who simply play for fun. I have worked with students who are highly dedicated musicians and I have also enjoyed working with angry teenages who just want to make noise.

I am working to develop music programming in an alternative school for students with behavior issues. I enjoy playing music with the students, and it was fun to have the opportunity to do some holiday music performances in the community.

Be open to playing many different styles of music. Many techniques and concepts from one style carry over into other styles. Also find different ways to learn. Method books have great information; YouTube is an amazing FREE resource; and get information from different teachers through lessons, workshops, and courses.

One important question is what kind of music do you like? That's probably the music you will enjoy practicing. It's also easier to learn music that you are familiar with. Another really important question is what are your musical goals? It's great if you want to learn some chords to play on your own. That may not take a lot of practice. But if you want to express complex emotions and perform with other experienced musicians, that takes much more time and dedication.
