SONIA PEÑARANDA-TAGGART(www.SoniaArt.com) is an architect and artist who has lived and worked in Colombia, Manhattan, Boston, Atlanta, New Haven, Los Angeles, Buffalo, and now Chicago. With a degree in Architecture and a Masters in Museum Studies, Sonia began exhibiting her work while living in Colombia. Her paintings have been sold in designer showrooms and galleries and can be found in private and corporate collections worldwide.
I teach oil painting at the Deer Path Art Center in Lake Forest, IL. I teach also individuals and private groups.
Inspired by love, passion, past and possible future experiences my art explores feelings in an unreal space. Rich palette of color envelops the different shapes that come from my mind in a freeway framed within a sophisticated composition. Through painting, I express myself and communicate with my collectors in an intimate circle. I felt it in a moment of my life and... you felt the same at some point in your life. It is a silent, symbolic, and colorful nexus between us.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I tailored the class accordingly to the student's needs and goals. I teach how to paint with oils and acrylics, students will learn composition, color combination, and techniques between others. I have been painting since I was 5 years old, I show my art in galleries in Chicago. I teach oil painting at the Deer Path Art League in Lake Forest and at the North Shore Art League in Winnetka. I teach individual classes at the student's homes.
