My teaching approach:
I am an Associate Instructor at IU-Jacobs School of Music. I have taught music, privately, for 15 years. I hold a Master of Music in Performance from IU (Classical Guitar) Here you can see me performing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwr6eQqVPlY. And, I am doing a PhD in Music Education at IU. My teaching training includes Kodály and Suzuki courses (https://suzukiassociation.org/people/ivan-maceda/). Currently, I am the only guitar teacher, in Bloomington, certified by the Suzuki Association of the Americas. I specialize in beginners and intermediate levels, any style, any age.

Guitar lessons typically take place on these days and hours:
Basically, Saturdays and Sunday mornings. But, I could offer other times.

Your first guitar lesson with me might include the following:
Usually, listen to him or her performing and talking about his or her goals as a musician, interests, favorite songs, and artists, background in music. I ask them to play whatever they feel more comfortable with.
A guitar lesson with me might entail the following:
We always start off by warming up and doing some reviews. Then, the student performs, with no interruptions, everything he or she did during the week. We define what we will encounter during the lesson based on the performance of what the student did the previous week. We go through drills to improve the playing and understanding. And, finally, we write down new assignments for the following week.
The qualities I look for in an ideal guitar student might include the following:
The one with passion and self-discipline: the one who can commit to him or herself to pursue the achievement of goals. This goals are based on accomplishing skills and not in spending time. I give importance to achieve results and not to studying for long hours.
