About
My students learn to play at a high level while having fun and finding great satisfaction in their work. I seek to cultivate well-rounded and capable musicians. In lessons we focus on strong technique, sight reading ability, knowledge of theory, and strong performance. My studio is also flexible and open to all ages, abilities and interests. Students take charge of their education, learning the styles and music they are most interested in.
I love helping people of all ages find joy and satisfaction in their music through diligence, persistence, and creativity. I believe music has incredible power to impact and heal human souls as well as foster connections between people and cultures. My greatest joy in teaching comes when I can see my students connecting with themselves and others in a powerful way to make this world a better place.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the first lesson with a prospective student I get to know them by hearing them play (if they have learned before) and discussing what goals they have. During the next few lessons I continue to look for what they should focus on most to improve and develop assignments accordingly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have taken piano lessons for over 20 years including 7 years of collegiate study during which I have earned bachelor's and master's degrees and have started on a doctorate degree. My coursework has included many courses on piano teaching. In addition, I have taught piano for over 10 years. The past three years I have been employed by a university to teach classes and private lessons to undergraduate and graduate students. Students have ranged widely in age, ability, interest, and style of learning.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Travel fee: $10/hr of travel time. If there are more than one student in one family, this fee is paid only once.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Playing the keys of the piano is a simple thing and can be learned easily from online tutorials or untrained teachers. Playing the piano well and beautifully requires a teacher who is well trained. Find a teacher who really loves music and has spent the time to become a fine musician themselves. Settling for lower quality lessons can lead to bad habits that will hinder your ability to play the music you love.
